        @Adamfilip See https://docs.duet3d.com/en/Duet3D_hardware/Accessories/Rotating_Magnet_Filament_Monitor#revisions

        Changes to the magnetic assembly and housing design. No change to the PCB design:

        • Magnetic assembly changed from a ring magnet to a rod magnet.
        • Enclosure modified slightly to accommodate new magnetic assembly.

        I only got mine yesterday, and haven't installed it yet. I understand that the new magnet makes it much more accurate, and the distance between the magnet and PCB is less critical than it used to be. But I'm sure @T3P3Tony will correct me if I'm wrong!

          @Adamfilip the main change is the use of a stronger magnet so that the distance between the magnet and the encoder is less critical. The electronics has not changed significantly.

            @dc42 With the new v3 is it accurate enough that I could go through 4 rolls on a single print without any errors?

              @patterson6 the accuracy depends largely on having a short and constrained path between the filament sensor and the extruder drive inlet.

                @dc42 is there anyway we can “upgrade” the older versions to the newer? Mine has never worked very well even with a very short path between it and the extruder

                  @dc42 my bowden tube is 5 feet long from the magnetic v1 sensor to the orbiter extruder. It's a delta printer so that's really as close as I can get it. I am just now testing my v1 after years of it collecting dust as we speak.
