Need more stepper drivers
-
As I have read on other posts I'm not alone in needing more stepper drivers.
I'm currently running on 6HC, 2x3HC and 1 tool board.
One of the 3hc are almost empty except for the stepper drivers. So buying another 3HC just for extra drivers feels a little unnecessary.
David wrote a couple years ago that a external stepper driver board was in the works. Any news on that?To make this more into a question, I am in need of two more drivers for a new tool I'm building.
I could free up two drivers if I buy two more tool boards, but I can't mount them on the tools so the benefits of the tool boards feels a little lost.I have a few tools in the works that need drivers but no heaters, thermistor etc so I need to find a solution that don't involve more 3HC's.
So is there a solution to this?

@smatkala you could use an STM32H7 board in expansion mode. Something like an SKR3 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004306356590.html or Super8Pro https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004431621335.html

@smatkala it's also possible to use a Duet 3 or Duet 3 Mini main board as an expansion board. Another option could be to use a SAMMYC21 and two stepper driver modules, which could perhaps all be mounted on the tool head; but you would need to do a small amount of firmware modification (which we could help you with) to drive the two modules from the SAMMYC21.

@smatkala How about two 1XDs? https://www.duet3d.com/duet3expansion1xd
