Mini 5+ Duet SD card slot issues
-
I'm having some troubles with the card reader on my Duet, and was hoping someone here could help.
After a long trail of troubleshooting what at first seemed to be firmware issues, the problem seemed to be either with the SD card or the card reader. After having tried with a different card and having the same error a reader issue seemed likely.
Having then learned that Duet has had a recurring problem with the soldering of the card reader I looked into that and noticed some pins were badly connected. After securing these connections with some tin and a fine-tipped soldering iron, the Duet could read the card!Strangely though, the error is now simply delayed. After having been powered on for about a minute or two, the Duet gives the same error; "Cannot initialize SD card 0: Card is unusable". On one occasion it gave "Cannot mount SD card: Code 1".
And after disconnecting power to the board and waiting a few minutes the SD card can be mounted again, but gives the same error after a few minutes.I'm thinking it's possibly still some bad connection that depends on the temperature, or something like that, but I'm no expert.
There doesn't seem to be a ground loop though, since the card reader doesn't get warm at all.Any advice would be appreciated.

@Berguv Most likely, the small ESD protection chip just behind SD socket may have an intermittent solder joint. This requires reflowing with hot air and a no-clean flux pen. When and from where did you buy your Duet? If it's a genuine Duet3D Duet, we'll replace it under warranty.

@droftarts Thank you for a concise response!
I bought my Duet from Filament23D. If it could be replaced under warranty that would be great, since these are procedures that I'm not familiar with.
Although the thing is I bought it in March 2022. So even if it's hardly been in use due to my 3D printing having been put on ice because of other things coming up, it is over a year since purchasing the board. -
