For once, I fear I have to complain about the accessories that come with a Duet.

I was always proud on the Duet team that you could be sure to get ample parts with your board. When I wired my first Duet Wifi, I had zero knowledge about how to make a decent crimp connection, but the connectors I received back then were plenty, so it did not matter that I required quite some attempts to for the first couple of connectors.

Sadly, it seems you hired a cliché scotsman and let him define what to pack with a 6HC... I had to recrimp one of the 4 pin high current connectors - and that leaves me with not enough crimp inserts for the rest since there are just two spares supplied! I honestly doubt if it is such a wise decision to cut down on such parts that much - if I pay already 260+€ for a controller board, I really do not care if I pay two or three € more - but I definitely do not want to be stopped unplanned by a lack of parts that just cost a couple of Cents each! Now I will need to invest one euro for getting some of these stupid parts (hoping I found the correct ones...) - and 7€ for shipping. Not to mention I cannot proceed as planned.

For the sake of any future buyers: please add more of these - sorry - f***ing crimp connectors!

And please tell me the JST part number of these to let me doublecheck I order the correct ones!

@NeoDue these are JST VH connectors. I will see if we can get you some more and review how many are included in the 6HC connector pack

@NeoDue For future reference, if you use this link and scroll down, you'll find a description of all the connectors https://docs.duet3d.com/Duet3D_hardware/Duet_3_family/Duet_3_Mainboard_6HC_Hardware_Overview

@T3P3Tony thank you for the quick answer Tony. I did not expect you to check here on a Sunday.

The fact that these are JST VH connectors is indeed mentioned in the section about crimping in the Duet documentation, but there are two different types of these crimp connectors available. I suspect you supply the smaller one - JST model no. SVH-21T-P1.1?

@deckingman Yes I know, but the exact crimp insert type is not mentioned there, hence my question.

@NeoDue the part number we use is VH396T-L its a JST VH compatible crimp (and we use the matching compatible housings.

We have reviewed the connector pack BOM, there are 6 x 4-way VH and 3 x 2-way VH housings in a connector pack; and we supply 40 VH crimps so 10 spare or 33% extra. If you only had two spare then we must have left some out of the pack, apologies for that.

Please email sales@duet3d.com with further information and we will arrange to send you some more.

@T3P3Tony I doublechecked, there are indeed just 32 connectors in the package. Weird, I bought the Duet from your official reseller Dold Mechatronik here in Germany and it did not seem to have been tampered with.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your offer! But while I do highly appreciate it, it does not really make sense to force you to ship a couple of these connectors to Germany. I will buy them here instead, then I will get them faster - and in exchange I will prefer to nag you quite probably with some more questions here when the printer runs with its new heart - Phaedrux knows what I am up to and the current state 😉
(In case anyone else has the same problem, Reichelt Elektronik sells them for 10 Cent a piece.)

By the way, by searching for the part no. you mentioned I actually stumbled upon the site in your documentation where the separate parts of the crimp connectors are listed (albeit with a nonexistant JST part no. at least for the VH connector I need, see https://www.jst-mfg.com/product/pdf/eng/eVH.pdf for the correct one): https://docs.duet3d.com/User_manual/Troubleshooting/Parts

May I suggest you add a link to that page to the appropriate section of https://docs.duet3d.com/Duet3D_hardware/Duet_3_family/Duet_3_Mainboard_6HC_Hardware_Overview ?
