SBC Rpi and Duet 3 or Octoprint

I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up my printer. I have been using Octoprint on my old Rambo makergear for years and I really like all the different plug-ins and the ability to use Octoeverywhere to view and to control my printer while I'm not home.

But, Since I have installed the Duet 3 mini wifi, I really like the DWC.

Would doing SBC better or would I have to connect Octoprint via USB cable, so that I'm able to view and control my printer while I'm at work.

Is there a good way to monitor and control the printer via SBC while off home network?

If I can just get the basic control and video while I'm away from home, then I'll be happy to keep using the DWC.

@Theboz1419 You can use either the Motion or Spyglass webcam server plugin in SBC mode if you want to see your prints from a remote device. Motion is better suited for USB cams and Spyglass is better for the original RPi CSI cameras.

To access DWC from outside your network, I suggest you set up VPN and use that.

What website has a good how-to setup a VPN. Since, using Comcast Modem/Router combination, it's been hell trying to get off network to work. I used to use NoIP for my BBQ controller, but I can't figure out how to connect to the controller off network with Comcast, even after port forwarding.

I have been thinking of turning off the router on the modem and just going back to a dedicated router. This might be the time for that.

@Theboz1419 Some routers like my FritzBox support Wireguard VPN and a sort of NoIP natively but it really depends on the firmware of your router. I've never had a Comcast modem/router combination so I can't help with that, sorry. If it turns out that your router doesn't support VPN, perhaps look for an alternative with Wireguard support. That works quite well for me.

@chrishamm Yeah, you don't want the Comcast combo units. The good thing is you can turn off the router and use your own, and so I bought a TP-Link router and have it up and running. So it should be easier to do.

You can use it to control your duet powered printer via an app or browser while not at home (via an raspberry pi with this software running) and still be able to use DWC while at home.

Thats at least what I do
