A few questions regarding switching to Duet

I don't know if I should make multiple threads or keep this one going to keep everything together and not clutter the forum with tons of random threads?
A new focused thread with a new title might get the attention of someone who knows the answer to what you're asking.

5V 2-Channel Relay interface board, and each one needs 15-20mA Driver Current
Equipped with high-current relay, AC250V 10A ; DC30V 10A
Standard interface that can be controlled directly by microcontroller (Arduino , 8051, AVR, PIC, DSP, ARM, ARM, MSP430, TTL logic)
Indication LED’s for Relay output status
It activates on low level. That sounds like a standard relay module with a driver and an optically-isolated input. If it is then it is suitable.

I have everything wired up and sort of working. The motors and endstops are all working fine except for the extruder that hasn't been tested yet.I am working on the BLTouch right now.I have a few questions regarding setting it up.What do I need to do after using the RepRap configuration tool.I am assuming the pins the sensor is hooked up to are set with the configurator when the BLTouch is chosen and assuming you use the wiring diagram from the documentation.I am guessing that I need to manually enter the lines to deploy and retract the probe along with clearing the alarm on the sensor?I also am guessing that I need to set up a user defined macro to have a button for bed compensation/leveling.Thanks
Here is my deploy and retract probe files

This should get you going on the BLTouch.

And if you have issues.
For bed compensation and leveling you can use bed.g. That gets called by G32. If you have a paneldue there is also a button on the screen that will call it. It can also be ran from the DWC.

@phaedrux Thanks for that I will try to get that sorted out this weekend.I am very new to all of this so when setting up a cartesian style printer where the extruder's home position is in the lower left hand corner and the actual nozzle sits below and to the left of the actual bed how or what offsets need to be changed?I am assuming the simplest way of setting those up would be to accurately measure them and entering them as a negative into wherever the offsets are set?
-
Probably best to start with this.

Oh and this will help a lot with getting the bed and axis travel limits setup.

I am Following the documentation to set up my machine and Duet but when using a BlTouch is it recommended to not use a Zmin endstop? I am asking because I have both wired up at the moment and I figured I would ask if it is common practice to eliminate the Zmin endstop when using the BlTouch sensor?
-
@siblues the BLTouch would become your z min endstop. Your homing files would need to be changed to use a G30 probe command instead of a G1 S1 Z move to trigger the endstop switch.
You could move the endstop switch to z max. Sometimes it's handy to be able to home to z max as well.
-
I have a cartesian style printer and setting it up at z max would be problematic when it comes to wiring it up.I am having a bit of a hard time setting up the bltouch and it is due to my lack of experience in using any type of firmware.I ran into the same problem when trying to set up my Smoothie and I couldn't get it to work for the life of me.I can care less if I have a zmin endstop or not as long as everything works as it should.I already have the zmin wired up but I can remove it if necessary to clean things up a bit. The problem I have is it isn't as simple as using the configurator to set up the machine and then copying and pasting the relevant lines of code for the bltouch sensor into the correct folders is it?
Which way would you recommend for an absolute beginner? The simplest route would be a better option for me at the moment.
-
@siblues can you post your current config.g and homing files? Also the deployprobe and retractprobe files.
What firm ware version are you using?
I can take a look and see if anything else needs changing.
There are 5 wires for the BLTouch. They need to go to the right place and the wires and crimps need to be working obviously. Wiring ends up being the culprit often. A multimeter to check continuity is helpful.

It's entirely up to you whether you home Z using the Z probe or using an endstop switch. Set up the homing files according to your choice. See https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/ConfiguringRepRapFirmwareCartesianPrinter#Section_Homing_Z.
Having the option to home to Z max can be useful if you want to be able to resume a print after a power failure.

If you're wired up the way its shown in that diagram you've got the wrong heater pin unbound. You've got 8 instead of 7 in M307.
Heater pin 3 is also commonly used. Either way, check your config-override.g to see if there is a heater binding being applied after you've removed it.
-
You'll also have to modify your homeall and home z files to use G30 instead of G1 S1 Z-200
-
Thanks for all the help so far Phaedrux
I have no idea where the config-override.g file is.I checked in the settings / system editor where all of the other folders are but it isn't there.
I would like to ask if I am using G30 to replace the entire line G1 S1 Z-200 or just replacing the G1 line with G30 S1 Z-200.
I am guessing the way I am setting it up now with your guidance is to use both the Zmin endstop and BlTouch?
-
@siblues You may not have one. It'll only be created if you've used M500 to save a parameter. Similar to how older firmwares use EEprom saving. M501 is used in config.g to load it.
G30 will replace the entire G1 line. It tells the firmware to find z min with the probe.
-
Phaedrux after I changed things around how you pointed out how do I go about checking to see if the probe is actually working as it should?
I tried
M280 P7 S10 I1
M280 P7 S90 I1The BlTouch is going through the self test at startup and then gives a constant on led.
-
What happens when you send those command? Does the pin deploy and retract?
-
No it doesn't move I even tried both codes without the l1 just to check.
