I have a threaded heatsink and it should be trivial to design a mount for it and the Orion. The only reason I haven't done it yet is that nobody's asked for it and as far as I can see the uptake of threaded heatsink has not been huge. Give me a day or two and I'll see what I can come up with.

Well if you can design a mount for it, I would be happy to purchase the Orion module for testing, ideally later I would try to incorporate the design to work with my aluminium milled part.

I wanted to know if anyone has tried the Precision Piezo Sensor on the E3D Threaded Heatsink design:

I have actually just done this with a mini kossel that I am retrofitting. It does not use the smart effector, but one of my own design. It is presently in pieces awaiting linear rails however.

Mind sharing the design? I can try to look into adapting the design for my machine.

First prototype mount for the threaded heatsink. Print with 0.2mm layer height.

Thanks for the quick design, you have a new buyer for the Orion Module

@moriquendi Idris If you remember I asked about this some time ago but I was more interested in a bare pub that would take the threaded heatsink however this solution may well work for me. Do you have a render showing how it all fits together?

I don't think (at the moment) that there's sufficient market for a PCB specifically for the threaded heatsink though hopefully that will change, the groove mount is... suboptimal.

This however involves much less investment.

Green is the new part specific to the threaded heatsink.
Blue is a standard Orion top piece, either screwmount (shown) or threaded or a custom part.
                      Purple is the Orion PCB.

@moriquendi ah so the thread it integral to the mount then?

Yes, it's actually very secure even when tightened by hand.

@moriquendi how about in a heated chamber tho?

May well print one and check it out tho and order a orion to see how it works out.

I think that you would be able to print a mount in nylon or some other material that would hold up in a heated chamber up to the temperature where the piezos would become unreliable anyway (somewhere around 80c I would expect)

I sent the file to Shapeways and expecting the print later today in SLS printed Nylon should be ok I hope.

The Shapeways part is spot on not the cheapest way but it is at least in Nylon at very low layer lights and 100% infill so should be quite strong and stable. cost was about £12 and took 5-6 days from upload to delivery

will order the Orion module a bit later Idris in no real rush for it!
