I have an Ormerod 2 that came with a nice metal enclosure for its Duet 0.6. Will anything like this be made available for the DuetWiFi? If not, is an external enclosure of any kind available for the DuetWiFi? I've just learned the FTP is not available on the new DuetWiFi, (yikes!) which in my case will require that I relocate the Duet 0.8.5 that I was planning to upgrade from under the bed on my Delta to somewhere outside of the printer so I can remove the SD card when directory maintenance is needed. Not looking forward to relocating the Duet and rewiring everything just so I can access the SD card.

The WiFi antenna, SD card socket, USB connector and reset/erase buttons are purposely all along one of the shorter edges of the Duet WiFi, so that you can install the board inside a printer with that edge accessible. The first 20mm of that edge of the board is also free from tall components and wiring connectors. This is so that you can install the Duet under the bed of a delta printer, with that short edge between a pair of 2020 base extrusions. See https://miscsolutions.wordpress.com/2016/06/25/more-delta-printer-upgrades-wifi-and-silence/ for an example delta printer build with the Duet WiFi.

For your Ormerod 2, you can print one of several Duet enclosure designs available on Thingiverse. You may also be able to adapt the metal enclosure by filing out the hole for the Ethernet socket a little to accommodate the width of the WiFi antenna.

Thanks for the quick response dc42.
I wish I could use your design but I know nothing about editing your scad file to remove the mains portion of the panel and I'm not able to print something that is 280mm long. I'm in no rush to use the new DuetWiFi and will simply wait until a usable enclosure is designed and shared by others.

This is my case design that can have a fan adaptor bolted on for forced air cooling.

Main case in orange, fan holder in green.
If your interested I can share but need to extend the internal height a little for cabling clearance and add some mounting feet to the base ๐Ÿ™‚

Looking at it I could also add some internal thru base mount holes, open to ideas

            Cheers

              Thanks very much Aussiephil,
Your design looks like it will work for me in its present state. I'll be watching for when you have it completed.

OK changes from my printed version are an extra 20mm of internal height, larger cable exit holes and four mounting holes located internally but outside the pcb edges so it can be mounted after the board is wired.

lid mount holes are set for 20mm x m3 screws, think 16mm may be ok

case is 149mm x 128mm so should fit most print beds, the base and the lid are printed independently.

Render from Fusion 360 as i haven't printed this

Wow this design looks very nice and well thought out. I will print one first thing in the am and report back. Good luck with your big printer, I hope that you get it back up soon.

the fan duct i have available is for a 75x75x30 radial blowerโ€ฆ. if your have a different size fan i can fairly quickly change it as most of the design for the duct is parametric.

                      you need 2 x 20mm M4 bolts and 2 x M4 normal nuts

                      Cheers

I have a few low speed (quiet ones of these lying around otherwise a low speed 50mm would be more than enough.

If anyone wants to design their own the key numbers are
                        Mount hole centres 62mm
                        Mount hole size 4.2mm (M4)
                        Hole centre from bottom: 7mm
                        Slot opening: 12mm x 50mm

                        Cheers

                            Phil,
Both parts printed as expected, Each took a little over 5 hours, and it makes a very nice enclosure. Better than I was expecting. Even though it is nice to know that the DuetWiFi does not need active cooling, the fan and airflow design is simply brilliant. Thanks very much! If you share it on Thingiverse I will post a make for it.

I've now published it over on thingiverse

I'll look at doing a 50mm and 40mm radial fan adapters soon.

I would expect that with the wifi end mounted upwards in a vertical fashion that the natural convectional cooling may well be good enough for most people as it should flow quite well.

New Case lid file uploaded both to dropbox and to thingiverse.

Found the mount holes had shifted when i extended the internal height, apologies for any inconvenience.

Found this when I went to print my own copy
