    Hi. I'm trying to decide on some new stepper to match my Maestro.

    Im more concerned about getting a nice quiet solution as my current steppers (OMC 2004S1 models) seem to vibrate quite a lot. If i run them with anything more than about 600-700 milliamps they vibrate immensely mostly at low speeds, even with no belts attached. Im thinking i might try some 0.9 degree motors as some people have had success reducing vibration when they switched to them.

    Is a lower inductance or a lower rated current better? Im trying to decide between the;

    • Wantai 42BYGHM809 (1.68a 4.0mH inductance)
    • Wantai 42BYGHM810. (2.4a 1.8mH)

    Whats everyone's thoughts?

      I switched my coreXY X/Y steppers from 1.8deg to 0.9deg and since then its noticeably smoother. YMMV. I used this model https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W9A2L3S , down side it doesn't have a connector like the 1.8deg so had to install a wire to wire connector.

        Mastro steppers should be <1.7A

        i got these 0.9 degree motors https://e3d-online.com/motors-high-torque-motor because they have the connector. (but not a cut shaft, but it seems to work anyway)

          For the Maestro I suggest you choose motors with less than 1.4A rated current. 24V power is best, although my Ormerod with 1.33A motors runs quietly with 12Vpower.

            What kind of torque do i need to run a Hypercube Evolution style corexy utilising linear rails?

            Im still on 12v but have no issue upgrading it to 24v if i'll get a quieter, smoother machine.

              The second motor you linked to is similar to the motors in my Ormerod. I don't know the Hypercube so I can't comment on whether the torque would be sufficient.

              If you go up to 1.5A rated current then stepperonline has a 45Nm motor, which would be quite a good match.

                it depends on the speed that you want to print at and if you want to use stealthchop2.

                for stealthchop2 you will need 24v. at 12v the torque is not enough.
