Firmware electronics 1.02 on board Duet WiFi 1.04
-
So you bought a clone and now you're asking here what did you buy??
-
Alas, I do not understand a clone or not. As I understand the project is open, therefore it is impossible to talk about falsification. If I am mistaken in some way, please correct it.
-
Why not ask the vendor you did buy the board from?
Your board clearly states "Based on the DuetWifi and Escher3d, this reproduction is not endorsed or supported in any way by ThinkPrint3d or Escher 3d"
and yet here you are... -

maybe this will help you figure it out. https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Hardware_Overview#Section_PCB_revision_v1_Num_04
a clone would suggest an identical copy, which it probably isn't. you'll have to assume corners have been cut, specifically reduced copper thickness, likely cheaper power transistors both of which means you might have trouble running at the maximum rated specifications. other than that it'll probably work, for a while at least.

M115 reports firmware electronics 1.02 or later. The firmware can't distinguish between 1.02, 1.03 and 1.04 (or between 1.0 and 1.01).

The "project" may be Open Source but surely the Think3DPrint and the Escher logos are not. So I would have thought that there is a legal case for misrepresentation or unauthorised use of those logos. Not that it would easy to enforce on a Chinese based company, but a "cease and desist" notice doesn't cost much.
In any case, under those logos, in large letters are the words "Designed and assembled in the UK" but further down in very small letters are the words "Assembled in China". Only one of those statements can be true so in any part of the western world, that is an illegal misrepresentation.

I did not read the inscriptions on the board, since English is not my native language. I apologize to the community if I addressed the wrong address. I did not buy this board directly from the manufacturer, I bought it on the secondary market which was in use. Thanks for all the answers.
Dear dc42, is it necessary to update the electronics firmware to a later version? -
Just as an anecdote: before buying my genuine Duet 2 I was also considering to buy one of these clones. But I already did my homework at that time and asked them on which hardware revision their board was based - they did not even understand that question so I dumped that idea for good and went for the real thing.
-
@revdit To answer your question: looking at the board layout this seems to be based on 1.04 - but as @bearer already mentioned this will most probably have cheaper components and might not last as long or up to the original specs.

Another potential issue with cloned boards is that they may use thinner copper. Genuine Duets use 2oz copper top and bottom instead of the standard 1oz, to better carry the high heater currents and to help move heat away foromthe stepper driver chips and the mosfets.
