Duet wifi not working after change wifi settings
-
The board does not respond to anything. I do not know at all what I could do with it.
-
I'd suggest to write up what happens for each step in the What to do if your Duet doesn't respond guide, which LEDs light up and so on for the techies to have a look, step by step.
-
It sounds like the firmware has been left in a state where it's trying to do something but can't (so no response), or the firmware has been corrupted or erased.
Which LEDs are on on the Duet? If the 'Diag' red LED is on, the firmware has been erased, or the firmware is stuck in a boot loop (eg the 'RESET' button may be stuck in, but this is very rare).
If the 'Diag' light is not on, unplug USB, remove the SD card, connect USB, and try connecting to the Duet using YAT / Pronterface / other terminal program. Removing the SD card disables WiFi, and any other config.g problems. If this works, look at the SD card contents for errors in your config.g
If this doesn't work, It's possible that the firmware is corrupted. The 'Diag' light can be on, but it may take another erase to get BOSSA to see the board. So, depending on which version of the Duet Wifi you have, either:
- Put a jumper on the ERASE pins, plug in USB power, unplug USB power, take jumper off, plug in USB power, or;
- Plug in USB power, press the 'ERASE' button, press the 'RESET' button;
Then see if you get a 'bossa' port or if BOSSA can connect. If you do, update the Firmware as here: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Installing_and_Updating_Firmware#Section_Fallback_procedure_Num_3

The 'Diag' LED is constantly on. I tried erase board but I can not update board because BOSSA do not see the board.
-
@koli90 what does the board show up as under windows (assuming you are using windows) when you plug it in over USB with nothing else plugged into the board?
-
@t3p3tony I don't see it in Windows Device Manager at all. And I don't see it in Linux either.

Is that the only LED??
-
@bearer 3.3V, 5V and USB power are also on.
-
Could the reset button be stuck in, or something shorting the reset button? The Duet gets stuck in a boot loop, and the diag light is always on, if it's constantly resetting. It also won't get picked up on USB.
Do any chips on the Duet get hot, or do any of them look damaged/burnt?Ian
-
@droftarts The restart button is not stuck, I checked it with a multimeter. Nothing looks damaged or burned, but it seems to me that the Atmel chip heats up quite quickly.
-
Have you tried the following:
- Rebooting Windows;
- If the Duet is connected to your PC via a USB hub, powering the hub down (i.e. disconnect it from the PC and from the local PSU if it has one) and up again;
- Connecting the Duet to a different USB port;
- Trying a different USB cable;
- Checking in Windows Device Manager whether there is an "Unknown device" when the Duet is connected?
Sometimes Windows gets in a state whereby it ignores a particular USB port. USB hubs sometimes get in the same state.
-
@dc42 I've tried everything, different USB port, different USB cable and different PC PC. Nothing, even an unknown device, is displayed in the Device Manager on any PC.

That and the lack of the Bossa port when you use the Erase button or jumper does suggest that the processor has blown.
-
How is that even possible? I didn't do anything that could do that. I just deleted the saved wifi via YAT and set a new one. And after reconnecting to USB, it stopped working.
-
Hard to say without knowing the age and origin of the board, but transients and esd are always the biggest sharks. Depending on where you got it and what consumer protection is like it could be the vendors job to prove you damaged it (it is here at least), so could be worth looking into.

When you say "I tried erase board", can you confirm that you fitted the Erase jumper and powered up the board, pr pressed the Erase button for one second or longer when the board was powered up (form USB will do)?
How hot does the MCU chip get? It's normal for it to run slightly warm, but not hot.
-
@dc42 Yes, I tried to follow https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Installing_and_Updating_Firmware.
As for the temperature of the chip and after a while it gets pretty hot (I have no way to measure the temperature)
