      Hi,

I'm a bit confused about when to cancel mesh bed compensation and/or baby stepping.

There are three instances where I would like to know if they have any effect and/or should be cancelled first.

      1. When homing Z to a end stop switch.

      2. When setting the "Z=0 Datum" using a Z-probe.

      3. When probing for mesh bed compensation.

Forgive my ignorance and thanks in advance.

Look at it this way: "Only activate Mesh bed compensation when printing"
You can do this in the slicer, add G29 S1 at start and cancel at end (G29 S2) of the print.
Or get a flat bed and don't use it 🙂

@dc42 would have to answer exactly when it's applied or not, but as a general rule of staying on the safe side it's probably best to cancel out both any time you're trying to redefine Z0. So in all 3 cases you ask about.

There are some people who view baby stepping as a permanent alteration to the Z height, such as is the case with the Prusa printers live Z adjust. Where it's a fine tuning of the z height at the start of a print, and once it's dialed in you leave it and it stays applied at all times. However, that's not how it works in RRF.

As @whosrdaddy says, probably best to clear it before G28/G29 and load the mesh either after homing, or right before the print. And baby stepping can be adjusted as needed per print. I personally clear any baby stepping at the end of every print.

That's what I decided on and have been doing but thought I would ask.

            Thanks much for the feedback.
