      Hi,

unfortunately another board has developed a similar fault not reading any sd cards, the same as in https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/10603/sd-card-slot-failed-on-duet-wifi/2

is it ok to get a confirmation to return

      thanks a lot

it very odd to have two failures. Are you using an SD card extender?

          thanks for quick reply

I was yes, but have tried it without, and some cards as well which work with the other boards. The board has only been turned on and done basic moves and switch checks a while ago, now everything else has been built around it I started setup proper and same issue. With the other board it occurred during operation and I think this might have always been like this but could be wrong.
I can double check everything but am away from the lab atm

Ah SD card extenders fry uSD sockets, that will be the cause.

            See:
            https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Warnings

Do not insert an SD extender cable into the built-in SD card socket! These cables frequently damage the contacts inside the SD card socket. Even when they don't, they do not work well at the high SD card transfer speeds used by the Duet.

                  Interesting.

I had not read that warning before.

I've had no such problems with the two different extenders I am using.

Think I best leave them as they are since they are working.

                  Thanks for the info.

@fcwilt yes, we highly recommend not using them. If access to the SD card is required routinely then using a second card on the CONN_SD header is a better option.

Don't worry I just got the OK to get another. To be honest I have really been putting these boards through their paces with different things and have already had one replaced, and a lot of the time the duet is the only thing that has worked so happy to buy another. cheers!

I agree, leave them well alone. It's inserting or removing them that does the damage. My guess is that at least some extender cables do not have the correct dimensions. I have personally damaged a Duet SD card socket by using an extender cable with it, and so have some of out customers. That's why we warm against them.
