Using a separate SMPS for duet x5 addon board
-
Im doing a custom project so i want to use add on board duet x5 for having additional heaters and steppers , so i want to use separate SMPS (360Watts 12V) for duet wifi main board and duetx5, is it possible,
Please find the attached image and give me solutionthanks and regards

Tie the grounds of the two PS together and this should be fine.

The issues I can see are:
- If you power up the Duet before you power up the DueX, the stepper drivers on the DueX won't get initialised.
- If the VIN to the DueX goes below the minimum level (about 10V) then the stepper drivers on the DueX will stop functioning, but you won't be warned about it, because VIN to the DueX is not monitored separately.
Other than that, I think it should work.
Another way to use 2 PSUs would be to use one to power the bed heater only and the other to power everything else.

@Danal Thank you bro

@dc42 how about if i choose to use only heater outputs?
will this setup work fine?
And if yes which one i should power on first? Duet x5 or mainboard

Yes it should work OK if you use only heater outputs. Always power them up either at the same time, or the DueX first.

@adhanabal @dc42 I've added this section to the DueX wiring page: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duex2_and_Duex5_Features?revisionid=HEAD#Section_Using_multiple_power_supplies
