Can't connect to Duet 2 Wifi via USB
-
Hi everyone, I am currently having a hard time connecting to my new Duet Wifi 2 over usb or DWC. Initially it connected normally and I was able to run some tests and upload new firmware. Later when I tried to connect, it was as if I had the wrong IP address, so I tried to connect via USB to see if it had changed. When I plugged the board in, nothing shows up in the device manager and I am unable to connect. Also, Here is a picture of the lights that come on when connected via USB. It is hard to tell but the grean light does come on, but it is not bright and does flicker. Any help is appreciated.

Try it with VIN connected.
-
I'd hold off on Vin and stick to https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/What_to_do_if_your_Duet_won't_respond

Is anything on the Duet getting hot? Check in particular the main processor, SD card socket, WiFi module, and U2 (3.3V regulator).

I incorrectly assumed that would be part of the guide, should it be?

I don't think it is - and yes, it would be worth adding, especially in the case of the green LED not lighting up at all or flickering.
-
I checked after your comment, and it isn't. I didn't include it in my response, on the incorrect basis that it'd be covered by the guide - thus the suggestion to add it.

@bearer @dc42 If it is hot, what would be the correct course of action? Weep? Let me know and I'll update the guide.

Unless its the SD card or the Ethernet module that can be removed its off to repairs as the part likely has an internal short and needs replacing.
-
Alright, perhaps the best course of action at that point would be to come to the forum and seek further assistance.
-
Thank you @bearer I have tried just about everything on there with no luck.
-
@mficken and nothing is getting warm?
Get some high res pictures of the board and lets see if we can spot any damage.
-
@Phaedrux maybe adding that a picture would be helpfull if turning to the forum?
-
@dc42 Yes, I plugged it in and some parts got hot very quickly. Specifically something labeled U3 which got very hot after only a few minutes.
-
Then make sure the get a close up that when you take a picture.

Here is a picture of the entire board as well as one close in on U3

Looks like there might be something on U3, its usually easier to see though, if you see something clearer in different angles of light please update.
in any case its over to the duet people for now.
-
@bearer I saw that, it is more visable at certian angles but it is hard to tell in those pictures. I took them on my phone but my camera is charging now so I will try to get a better angle after it is done.

@dc42 Here is another picture that may be higher quality but it is still difficult to see the mark on U3
