Any plans 'IP detect'

Are there any plans to accept detection / connection from tools such as CURA ?
To be able to pull basic printer information such as bed dimensions / offsets etc - and even send gcode straight to the printer ?
Not a big deal - just curious.

There is already a Cura plugin to upload files to a Duet direct from Cura.
It would be entirely possible for Cura to obtain printer information from a Duet running RRF 3.01 by using the rr_model HTTP call. Whether the Cura plugin architecture would allow the bed size etc. to be set from the printer from a plugin, I don't know.

In addition, all Duet boards (including the DuetPi Linux distribution) support mDNS. I made an Android app to discover Duets over the network a while ago.

Cool, I'll dig some more, I'm going to try Cura and was just setting it all up. I like Prusa Slicer but they've messed up filament profiles for non prusa printers in the latest build, I'm through using Simplify.

I suspect there is a caveat t mDNS for some versions of rrf2 where it was disabled. But it should be back in the latest afaik

mDNS was disabled in the build for the legacy 0.6 and 0.8.5 Duets some time ago, because it was crashing and the third-party mDNS code was too badly flawed to be fixed easily. Originally. mDNS was not supported on the Duets that used the W5500 chip (Duet Ethernet and Maestro), but @chrishamm added it a few versions ago. So mDNS is currently supported by all Duet 2 and Duet 3 boards using recent RRF 2.x and 3.x firmware.

Found the plugin for Cura and that works, can't discover the printer yet but can send stuff straight to it ... a small victory at least.

It is, has both IP and DNS entries (I run a DHCP and DNS server).
Cura doesn't find it, I don't install pronterface as don't use it, with the web access to the printer it is no biggy.

I'm moving from them too and so far tried to move to craftware (best gcode preview), ideamaker, slic3r, prusa slicer and cura ... ideamaker is so far closest to what I can work with, I suggest you try it out
@chrishamm any special configuration required or printer name is all that's needed ?

Thanks for the tips - I've downloaded Ideamaker and will try it. To be honest Prusa Slicer if it weren't for the filament profiles ticks a lot of boxes now (I also have a Mk3s), I have yet to find a slicer that really nails bridging and overhangs well but there are so many pitfalls with those anyway it is hard to blame the slicer sometimes.

Considering that printer configuration and IP are static but gcode code is not, it may even qualify as a medium victory.

@Garfield took me a while to try it out, I was looking at everything else but for some reason ignored IM .. The first use is weird, it's kinda different than what I was used to so maybe that .. but after second print I really started to dig it
.. anyhow really unrelated to this topic so.. ping if you need help with it 
I'm far from master (still turn back to s3d from time to time as it's faster - I know where everything is) but I can help with first steps (only thing that's fscked up with it is gcode preview if your origin is at center of bed) -

@Danal mind it still works great, you position your parts on the bed it apply the offsets and everything is good on print, just when you preview the gcode it "forgets" that origin is in center of the bed so all your gcode is rendered around lower left corner
... there is no offset for preview

... there is no offset for preview Yeah, I can live with that. I will check it out. Although, I am liking SlicerPE more and more.
