      Hi,
Thanks for the replies, a lot to go through.
First off, it did not come with a card, just the board.
Anyway, I followed the "Getting Connected to your Duet" link and got no response at all. I dug out the Mendel which does work but got no response either. The Mendel is FW 1.09
I noticed when first plugging the USB in I got a message saying installing Duet so it does appear the USB is working.
I took the SD card from the Mendel and put it in the new card and connected over ethernet and using the web browser. It says FW 1.09, this is the same as the Mendel so is it actually that or what is on the SD card?
By the looks of it updating the firmware would be a good idea but what versions are available.

      Bob

        Check this thread out: https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/15673/duet-0-8-5-firmware-upgrade

and here's another recent update for a 0.6 board: https://forum.duet3d.com/topic/15300/duet-0-6-which-firmware-release

Updating the firmware via USB using Bossa is probably your best bet.

        As described here: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Installing_and_Updating_Firmware#Section_Fallback_procedure_Num_3

firmware version for your board would be 1.26.1 found here as the RepRapFirmware.bin file: https://github.com/dc42/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/2.05.1

Thanks, I will have a look at doing a firmware update tomorrow or over the weekend.
I Put the Mendel SD card in and applied power now and the good news for me is that I can jog it on all axis (apart from the extruder) and it moves sweetly where it was a nightmare with the Velleman RAMPS board juddering or just making a growling noise.
I have made a lot of progress in a day or so, I wish i had found this forum earlier.

            Hi,
Been a busy day, I did a lot of reading and found somewhere the Duet 0.6 is based of Arduino. I installed Arduino software and selected Arduino Duemilanove and it showed up in device manager and using the serial monitor I could connect and send M commands and get the required a responses.
I also found a web page which shows how to in very good detail how to do fault finding etc on the Fischer delta which uses a Duet 0.6 https://reprapltd.com/documentation/firmware-and-configuration/
I followed this to the letter and now I have FW 1.23 and 1.22.6 DWC which at the moment is good enough for me, the new web control does look like it has a lot more information and control.

The interesting thing is that now YAT communicates but it no longer shows up as Arduino or a Duet device in Device manager. Not that I am bothered but it did seem strange.
Now I have to copy the files from the configurator and start testing everything which should be fun.

I would like to thank everyone for their input as without your help I would still be struggling and probably getting nowhere.

            Regards,
            Bob

Now that you're on 1.23 the update to 1.26.1 should be as easy as uploading the new bin file through the web interface. Same goes for the web interface itself by uploading the DWC zip file.

A total minefield for a newbie

I LOL'd at this one. I setup mine almost two years ago and thought that. After a lot of work and mind numbing reading of posts and articles (and a HEALTHY dose of help on here!) I finally mastered the beast.

Here we are, a while down the road, and I made some upgrades to my machine and the house of cards came down. The old adage "If you don't use it you lose it" kicked in and again I found myself banging my head on the desk as I struggled relearn AND to grasp the changes that occurred since last time!

I'm now back in it (mostly) and it occurs to me that I might try my hand at writing a beginners guide aimed at the total noob. I'm fairly good at explaining things once I grasp them, my biggest hurtle is that I tend to long winded. Nature of the beast {SIGH}.

There are lots of guides out there, many of them excellent, but I'm thinking sorta a "Guide to the Guides" with some simple explanation of the major terms thrown in since that's often the main sticking point when starting a new field of learning.

The guides don't always define their terms up front, so the beginner gets lost in the terms rather than the concepts being explained. The old "Well, I'm at the end of the page and I'm more confused then when I started" thing.

I'm sure I'd be asking a lot of Q's of the old hands if I do it to ensure I don't send someone off a cliff, LOL! (I can hear the groans now 😜 )

Hang in Bob, it'll start coming together. Good luck!

                  Thanks,
I will have a look at that over the weekend, I take it there is no issues with revisions as the configurator only has an option for 1.21 when 0.6 is selected.
I have a few issues with the config file I created so I am going to look at them first.

                  Regards,

I think you'll be ok. 1.21 was supposed to be the final release for older boards, but in the end they got up to 1.26.1 to match the 2.05.1 release as the final RRF2.x release.

                      Hi,
It is coming together now, I think the issues I have are easily resolved, The axis do not travel the right measurements so I am going to check what I put into the configurator and one axis seems to struggle in one direction so probably a mechanical issue. At least it is the weekend so I can have a beer while looking.

Just make sure it's A beer ... LOL!

Glad to hear you're chasing the axis first. I always advise people make sure the mechanicals are right before messing with the settings. Can't believe how many times I've seen someone wrestling with settings when the problem is a loose widget ... You obviously get it. I guess having that many printers will do that!

                        Have fun!

It should show up as a Duet if you install the Windows device driver for Duets, which you can find in DuetDriverFiles.zip from https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/2.05.1.

                            Hi,
I did install the driver or thought I had but that was when it was 1.09?, I will try again now it has been updated.
I really do like the fact I can just edit the config from the web control as I an now setting things up.

I have the measurements right now which was my fault for not looking at the calculator in the configurator.
There is a strange issue which I thought was mechanical, it would judder and stop if I tried to go +50 or 100 but was OK at +10 and no issues in the - direction.
I have changed the max speed from 6000 (from the configurator) to 5000 and it seems to be smooth now. Should it be able to go faster, I did think about upping the current or lowering the acceleration.

Just make sure it's A beer ... LOL!
You are talking in Hex there I take it 🙂

                              Hi,
I installed the driver again and it now shows up as a Duet.

I thought I would progress by testing the extruder/hotend but hit a snag and learnt a valuable lesson.
I have converted the K8200 to 24v, I set the temperature and enabled the heater where the temperature shot up very quickly and then faulted out. I checked the resistance of the heater which was 6.7ohms which equates to 86w. There were no markings on the heater so the lesson here is don't but cheap off ebay or Amazon (I can't remember which) but if it were an E3D one it would have had the rating etched on it.
Now waiting for the postman to bring me a genuine E3D heater.
