      Hi guys,

I got my duet 3 6HC a few days ago, along with the PanelDue 7. It is my first time using duet and have very little experience with motherboards. I am finding it a huge pain getting it to work. Is there anyone who can help me walk through the full process? I have been trying to follow the dozuki for days, but no luck 😕

      Thanks!

      Lucas

you'll find that if you ask a specific question you'll get a specific answer.

@bearer well, my issue is pretty much the whole setup. I am both fine with running it in standalone or with a pi. I just can’t get it to work

If you can't describe which parts of the documentation is unclear or doesn't work for you I don't see how I can help you.

              @bearer fair enough.
Well let’s say I want my duet in standalone mode. From my understanding I need a micro SD in the duet. How do I set this up properly?

Pretty much the same way as a Duet 2 Ethernet board, except you choose Duet 3 in https://configtool.reprapfirmware.org/

The caveat here is the SD card supplied with the Duet 3 contains the Raspberry Pi operating system, so it is possible computer gets a little confused when trying to access the card. It is safest to format the card and upload the files generated by the configtool.

Use https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/ to format the card. (Don't worry, if you want to go back to using the card with the raspberry pi, you can download the DuetPi image and write it back to the card later (using etcher or win32diskimager).

The https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Guide/1.)+Getting+Connected+to+your+Duet/7 for the Duet 2 will be mostly valid for the Duet 3 as well if you need to connect via USB to configure your network for some reason.

@bearer so I reformatted the sd and it is empty now. Do you have a good guide on what files I should put on the SD now? I already made the config.zip through the RepRap page, but I assume that's not all I put on the SD

@Vanbluca come to think of it it needs decompressing and placing into /sys and /www on the sd card.

                    ref https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/SD_Card#Section_Creating_the_file_structure

(it won't match 100% but close enough hopefully)

doing some more thinking - if its a new board it probably shipped with RRF 3.0b12. So you would have to install 3.0 release first, then update to 3.1.1.

(if you didn't get a download link to a DuetWebControl.zip file then grab https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/3.0/DuetWebControl-SD-2.04.zip and extract to /www on the SD card before putting it in the Duet3)

download https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/3.0/Duet2and3Firmware-3.0.zip and upload it to DuetWebControl once you're connected.

                      then repeat with https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/3.1.1/Duet2and3Firmware-3.1.1.zip

without any sd in my duet, I can't get it connected to my computer. is that normal?

without a sd card you can (only) connect with usb and use a serial terminal (ref the getting connected guide).

at that point you can enable the network (but the files for the webserver should be on the sd card so network won't help much without the card)

sort of, but if you have the network config in config.g + the DuetWebControl files in place and boot with the SD card you should be able to access http://duet3/ just like that.

Mac, right. the permission denied probaly means you need elevated access rights to run the command on the Mac.

@bearer The DuetWebControl files, aren't they just the files from the "SD_Card_Contents.zip" download? or do you need to change them?

they are likely ancient. use these instead

                                            Sorry in advance, cant resist......

And respect to @bearer you are a very brave man indeed..........

Might I suggest you take up another form of additive manufacturing which might suit you better.

Its called knitting, two needles and a ball of yarn, nothing more to do, and away you go...
