@joshuamensch regarding your errors, please post your config.g and firmware version (send M115 To Duet and post response). Also please post the exact error message you’re getting.
From your picture, your X and Y motors are using plugs that are not compatible with the pin in the board, and may be making poor contact. Check your stepper motor wiring phases are correct (see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Choosing_and_connecting_stepper_motors#Section_Connecting_stepper_motors). You also do not have any temperature sensor plugged in for the hot end. As -273C usually means open circuit (ie nothing connected), and +2000C means short circuit (ie no resistance), I’d expect this to be an error in your config.g, usually that you have set the thermistor configuration using RepRapFirmware 3 notation, when your Duet is running RepRapFirmware 2.

which is a 1.04b and it is supposed to have c99 placed. OP has 1.04c where it is removed; ref above.

@droftarts when i came back to it today i stopped getting a stepper driver overheating error but i am still having a thermistor reading error. when i put in the M115 this is the response "FIRMWARE_NAME: RepRapFirmware for Duet 2 WiFi/Ethernet FIRMWARE_VERSION: 2.03 ELECTRONICS: Duet WiFi 1.02 or later FIRMWARE_DATE: 2019-06-13b2" and attached is my config.g config.g thanks in advance

@joshuamensch you are running firmware version 2.03, but your config is for v3. Either update to v3.1.1 (via v3.0) or redo your config in the config tool for v2.03.

Most likely other things won’t work either, until you do one of those two things.
