I'm running RRF 3.1.1 on my Duet WiFi, but when I load the latest PanelDue release of 1.24 and try to plug it in I get a white screen. (7i purchased new this year)

(cable appears to be good, and the panel boots up under usb power)

Do I need to be running pre-release firmware on my PanelDue? (3.2RC2?)

Is compatibility listed somewhere and I'm just missing it?

the paneldue should have a menu, even when not connected. try reflashing it.

Are you sure you chose the correct bin file for your paneldue hardware and followed the flashing procedure exactly?

and are you sure you haven't pressed the erase button rather than the reset button?

I just tried flashing to 3.2. It looks good when on USB power (I can navigate around and verify the firmware, but when connected to the Duet2 WiFi I still get a white screen.

However, this time I let it sit a bit longer (~2 -5 minutes) and I started getting flickering on the screen with the menu breaking through every once in a while. Then it went away.

That looked like a cable issue, so I changed the (primary/4-wire) cable, still a white screen. I tried it with and without the ribbon cable also connected. Same white screen with occasional flickering.

I don't think this is a compatibility issue at this point maybe something in the config.gcode?

              config.g

I confirmed that the panel baud was set to 57600...should I try messing around with different baud rates?

@jay_s_uk Pretty sure I didn't hit the erase again (you have to click it once during the new firmware install)...I mean it takes a tool to get to...and if I switch back to just a micro usb cable I can still get into the menus.

@Phaedrux I'm pretty sure I did everything correctly, but how would I verify? I can power it up over USB and navigate to the panels settings page. Shows the expected (now 3.2) firmware and 57600 baud. Anything else I should look for?

Confirm that you are running the Duet from VIN power? If you are powering the Duet from USB then there may not be enough voltage reaching the PanelDue.

@dc42 Yes, I am running the duet from 24v power supply.

I have been plugging the paneldue back into the microusb to access the settings menu.

If the screen is flashing white when powered from the Duet but not when supplied with USB power, then that looks like a power problem, most likely the cable. Using the wrong baud rate etc. would not cause that.

Already tried a second cable, anything else to try on the power front besides a third cable?

Onto the third cable, better, but similar behavior. I'm beginning to suspect something is loose on the board. I have trouble believing that three cables that all show continuity on a multimeter are all bad.

                          Here's a criminally rotated video...(sorry)

(just to clarify, that flickering is accurate, not a recording artifact)

The paneldue is elevated on a plastic box just to rule out any case issues. The cables aren't touching anything.

Can you measure the power voltage at the 4-pin connector of the PanelDue?

That's a good voltage, unless it's an average and the voltage is suffering sharp dips every time the backlight inverter starts up.

The +5V goes through a diode and an inductor before it reaches the common 5V rail. I guess one of those components might not be soldered down properly.

Ok, I guess I'll try to return it.

The only other clue I can offer is that if I just plug in the 4 wire I get a white screen, if I power on and then plug in the ribbon cable I can reliably get the flickering.

Please check that there isn't a solder bridge between pins of the ribbon cable connector on the PanelDue.

Is there anything else I can do short of trying to get a return or exchange? This thing is effectively brand new (it did sit in the box for a month before I got around to trying it).
