Maestro 2 questions
-
So recently in a group, I had some people recommend the Maestro 2 as one of the best boards I can add to my Ender 3 Pro. Specially since I plan on adding an Ender Extender build to the setup. Already have a all metal dual gear extruder added and plan on upgrading the Hot End as well. But after looking over some comparison charts, I'm wondering if maybe the Duet 2 Ethernet board would be considered "better". Would there be any benefit in going up to the Duet 3 6HC? Or is that more for adding more axis and extruders to a printer?

The Maestro is out of production. If you can wait, then for an Ender 3 Pro I suggest the Duet 3 Mini. It will be available in both WiFi (with external antenna) and Ethernet versions. General availability is expected to be January, with limited numbers available before then.
The price of the Mini will be more than the Maestro was, but should be less than the Duet WiFi and Duet Ethernet.
Duet 3 MB6HC is a great board, but overkill for that machine IMO.
You can find a comparison of all the Duets at https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/The_Duet_family_of_motion_control_electronics.

just looking at duet 2 vs maestro for the ender 3.
the maestro is the better choice for the ender 3.
the drivers support stealthchop2 and the motors are below 1A.
the maestro supports the ender 12864 display, the duet 2 wifi not (at least not out of the box)but if you can wait for the duet 3 mini, then i would suggest you do so.

There is also the chance that you might still be able to find a Maestro for sale.

So now here's a concern of mine. I picked up the Maestro 2 From printm3d.com. Finally got it just now. I'm in California and they are in Maryland. When I got this board, it came in just a static bag wrapped with some bubble wrap in a USPS priority envelope. No box to protect it from bending or being smashed. Is this how they have always been shipped? I picked up a PanelDue 7i and it came in a DUET3D box with foam and everything to keep it safe. It seems safe but this makes me really uneasy.
-
Edited the part about the connectors out. I went back to the page and saw they mentioned that they do not come with the board.
-
I'm confused, are you relaying someone else's experience there? You've only just got the link an hour ago.

duet maestro was developed together with m3d (https://fitforlaunch.com/projects/duet-2-maestro)
that is why they are still selling them. -
@Veti I may just return this Maestro 2 and wait for the Mini 3 Ethernet.

@Phaedrux No, I have it in hand. I made the purchase and found your forums after doing so. Reached out here to get some feedback. I want to use the Duet3D boards, just curious if this was how they were normally shipped when the panel is done so differently.

So you already have one? If so, here's a guide to installing it on an ender 3 pro. It's a perfect match.

Normally they would be shipped in their own box similar to the Paneldue, but M3D has chosen a different option. Does the board work? Shipping in a bubble bag might be ok, really depends on handling.

@Phaedrux I will bookmark and use this guide. I need to modify the Merlin Firmware for my Ender board since I put it back in after removing the BTT stuff. I won't really be able to start the board up will I can get the proper pins and connectors for the conversion. Is there a package that you know of that would allow me to do this conversion? I didn't see a pack on their site. Though I should do a little more digging.

@Phaedrux Greatly appreciated sir. Now since I realize this has a USB cable with it, would it be worth it for me to connect just the power wires to the board, hook up the USB to my PC and turn it on to check and see if it's bootable?
-
@Destruct0Dan
with usb you dont need additional power.
the cpu and web interface will work, stepper fans etc will not -
@Phaedrux Looking at this kit, from printersolid it's like $15 for shipping. Now I see that filastruder has 3 kits. So which would I want for the Maestro 2? They have Duet 2, Duet 3 and Duet Smart Effector. I just wanted to make sure that the Maestro wasn't going to be any kind of weird pin requirements like the Duet 3 over the Duet 2. That's all.
-
The Duet2 kit would be closest to the maestro. The Duet3 has larger motor connectors.

@Phaedrux Is it the DWC that I want to use to connect the Maestro to to check the board, pre-installation?
