So I am redesigning my gantry to be a bowden setup, and am also looking to installing an air pump for a part cooling solution using thin aluminum tubing. I am shooting to lighten the gantry and reduce the footprint to maximize my build plate.
Setup: I am running a 24V PSU but I can step down to 12v and use the ground of the fan pins to control pump speed, correct?
Also I am having a difficult time finding a good "go to" air pump. I am leaning towards a diaphragm pump design since I just got a standard pump in the mail and it is large, and kind of loud. Also it only works on AC so I am returning it regardless. But I am seeing low number of hours (1000-2500hrs life span) can anyone confirm this is all they last? Standard blower fans last 30000 hours from what I have found.
Lastly, I am not sure how much flow is "enough" for a setup like this. What is everyone else using?
I am looking at a few of these, any comments will be greatly appreciated

I don't think either of those will give you enough air to be honest I use these which are 24 V Pumps and deliver more than enough air and I run mine at no more than about 25% for PLA mine has been on my delta now for about 3-4 years with no issues. You will need a Fly Back Diode and possibly wise to use an external misfit as well

before you buy a pump watch this

@Dougal1957 Thanks for the recommendation! How audible is this setup?
-
@Veti Thats wild, and very visually informative thank you.
That being said I can't imagine that being too quiet of a setup, but I didn't watch the video with audio here at work.

It isn't that bad in fact the E3D V6 fan is probably louder but the printer is in its own room and so any noise from it doesn't bother me

Nice video, it is a bit surprising to be honest.
I worry a bit how good HevACS will work when the printed part gets higher. You will loos the support from the bed over the time the part rises aka the bed goes down. -
@Dougal1957 I'm also working a pressurized air solution. I have a large delta so getting that weight down is critical (Bowden's are the worst! Can't print TPU or get fine off/on control of extrusion. I ended up with a 'remote direct-drive' extruder which works fantastic (google Zesty Nimble).
The air pumps I got off Amazon didn't have early enough pressure. Right now I'm planning on using an air-brush compressor which has lots of blow even through 6ft of narrow tubing. Super quiet model compressor (47 db).
As for the air nozzle, I'm experimenting with custom designs that try to get the air as focused as close to the nozzle as possible, ostensibly to improve bridging. -
@Dougal1957 The pumps I got off Amazon were way too weak but I trusted what you said and ordered that diaphragm pump because its so cheap! I have to run it through about 6 feet of narrow tubing (100cm high delta) so we will see if it can maintain enough airflow and pressure. My air-brush compressor, albeit WAY oversized, is super quiet and gobs of pressure/airflow.

I used 5mm bore 8mm o/d silicon tube reducing to 2 mm bore or so (RC model fuel tubing) used one of these fittings to couple the 2 together at the effector end also a 1mtr tall delta
