    ToolBoard 1LC noob questions...

      Hi *,

      I got my two toolboards 1LC today. Nice peace of engineering, they are small and nice and have cool connectors on it! I like the green screw terminals, they are much better for me and my crimping skills than the usual connectors.

      I have a stupid questions now and I want to ask them before I bring up the holy smoke.

      Am I right that I can use GND from OUT_1 and OUT_2 to control two 24V Fans connected plus to 24V? (Like the 12Vbug trick for fan control on the mainboard.)

        Yes. Alternatively, it's safe on the tool board to add a wire on the back to connect the +12V external output (as found on the two OUT connectors) to +VIN, because external +12V is diode-isolated from internal +12V. The next version of the tool board will include a jumper to do this.

        The reason we went for 12V fans is that fans with tachos and fans with separate PWM control are much easier to get in 12V.

          THAT is indeed a very, very good idea. 😉 24V is more than common nowadays in this industry.

          Yes, you are right, I did not sought about the final setup, I bought some fans and it was obvious for me to source 24V because of the power supply. At the end is it my bad that I did not went though the docu first. 😉

          And for the next version: Could you please consider to get rid of that JST-ZH connectors? It is nearly impossible to get connectors to crimp and pliers for them. The screw terminal are much much better here. And I hate it to solder a wire with a connector to a fan. That looks like somebody have extended a wire which was cut to short. 😉
