Solved New Guy Big Firmware Issues
-
I use a Modix Big 40 in education and a student has erased all of the firmware. I cannot even get it to recognize in YAT. I am trying to load the proper file into Bossa with no luck.....
My Duet Touchscreen is just white and I cannot get any loader to recognize it as anything but a Bossa program port.
As I have many of these interfaces in my lab I can only assume I will need this knowledge again! Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

@jay_s_uk I have been able to get my screen back up but once I have that in I cannot get my computer to recognize. the board as anything. I have installed the Duet Driver onto my PC and it says that it was successful but all I am seeing is "connecting" in the top right of the Duet screen with nothing showing on device manager. I have reset the board using the reset button as well as a physical disconnect with the computer with no difference. The only way I can get the computer to recognize the board is to erase it and then I am back to square one as it being recognized as Bossa Port.
At times in Bossa uploader it will say that flash is not large enough (I am paraphrasing) and it will not let me write. If I run a read it will then allow me to 'write". Is that a symptom of a different problem?
The console will still not take gCode commands. I am kind of at a loss. Any other hints or ideas?

@pgantt what file are you trying to flash through BOSSA?
-
@pgantt Did you unplug the ERASE jumper again? It must be used only to get the board into bossa mode, then it should be removed again.

@jay_s_uk duet 2 combined firmware and panelduefirmware 3.3.0 5.0i-7.0i.

@chrishamm I have just been using the "erase" button supplied on the panel.
-
@jay_s_uk this is what Modix sent me to push to the Duet.
-
The firmware for the Panel and for the Duet are completely separate.
Here are the steps for updating the Duet via USB.

@phaedrux I have done that one already. Once I upload it and hit reset I lose connectivity to the computer as well as a blank white screen. I have run this process many, many times to see if there is something I have done wrong. After the firmware is in and I reset/power cycle the board I cannot do anything else with it as no matter what I do it will not connect via usb. Nor is there anything on the screen. I'll do a screen cap tomorrow of exactly what I am doing an maybe someone can help point out what I am doing wrong here. Thanks all for your input.

After flashing the Duet with Bossa you can do a verify of the firmware, does that read it back correctly?
-
@phaedrux yes it does. Each time everything checks out. It writes clean and it verifies and then I reset it and it drops all connection. I have tried over and over with different usb cords, different ports, different computers and i get the same results out of the board.... White screen with no connection unless I erase and reset back to bossa port.

How are you expecting to connect to it? After it resets after the flash you should probably be able to see it via YAT.
Are you using this file?

@pgantt don't use the reset button. Just unplug it
-
@jay_s_uk I have done that as well with the same results.
-
@phaedrux here is a video of me running the process. If you have a second to look over I would really like to know if something is wrong with my process. It's about 5 minutes. Thanks to all.

You're trying to flash the Duet firmware onto the PanelDue.
As I said before: The firmware for the Panel and for the Duet are completely separate.
The steps to flash them with bossa are similar, but you need to connect to either device and use the correct file for the device.
These are the instructions for flashing the Duet board
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Installing_and_Updating_Firmware#Section_Fallback_procedure_Num_2
You use this file: https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/2.05.1/Duet2CombinedFirmware.binYou must connect the USB cable to the Duet board itself.
These are the instructions for flashing the paneldue:
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/PanelDue_Firmware_update#Section_Firmware_update_via_USB
You would need to choose the right file for your particular version of paneldue: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/PanelDue_Firmware_update#Section_Find_the_correct_fileDoes that make sense?

@phaedrux Thanks for your patience..... Yes I see now. I was making a wrong assumption about the panel due pushing the firmware to the board.... Let me try all of that now that you have knocked some sense into me!

You're on the right track now. It's a steep learning curve. You'll get there, we're here to help.
