Dual Rigid Coupled Motors

I am planning to use 2 steppers on one axis directly coupled via a GT2 belt. I plan to use separate drivers assigned to the same axis on my Duet 3 mini 5+ with expansion board.
My question is, would there be any issue with the motors or drivers running in this setup? Could the two motors be fighting against one another? I am worried that if the poles/steps are not totally in sync the two motors will be constantly fighting. Anyone tried this before??

Nothing unusual about the setup.
The only thing you want to avoid is the sideways pressure of the belt affecting the alignment of steppers with reference to what they are driving, say lead screws.
One poster had lead screws connected to the steppers via a flexible couplings.
The pulleys for the belt were above the flexible couplings pulling them a bit out of alignment.
If the pulleys were below the flexible couplings all would be fine.

@bubblevisor i have heard people using this sort of arrangement when using multiple Z motors, not sure if its actually better than using a single motor and the belt.

Have you considered connecting the two motors in series to same driver? May be easier to guarantee synced movement.

@zapta I would have done this if i was using the duet 2 wifi as it has the nice facility of dual z motor (in series) molex kk connections on the board already. However the duet 3 mini does not. Is there an adapter one could purchase to series connect motors to one driver??

@bubblevisor it's easy enough to wire two motors in series.

@bubblevisor , to build the Y harness in @dc42's post, you can use these connectors which match your existing stepper connectors.
