Best Webcam Options
-
Hi guys,
I have had no luck using a Amcrest IP cam in DWC. I figure it's just time to buy a little dedicated webcam for the printer.
Any suggestions on webcam options that play nice with DWC, ideally with decent image quality?
Thanks!

@ccs86 Typically most users connect a standard USB webcam to a SBC (eg rPi), and then use a camera streaming service like Motion or ustreamer to convert the video into a compatible stream for DWC.
If you already have access to an SBC it might be worth exploring using one of these services to convert the Amcrest IP cam video feed into a compatible stream for DWC, before you purchase a new camera.
I personally use Motion to capture the video from a wyze ip cam, and then use the converted Motion stream in DWC.
There are plenty of articles available on how to setup Motion or similar services for use with DWC.

I am running a rPi on my network already for some other functions, so that is an option.
I appreciate the thought to conserve and use what I have, but the form factor on this camera is less than ideal anyway. So, buying a new cam that mounts neatly in the printer is worth it to me. Let me know if you have any hardware recommendations.

Any concerns with the Logitech C920?

Left is Wyze IP cam through Motion
Right is £10 Amazon 1080p no name usb webcam using uStreamerAny USB cam with 1080p and V4l2 driver compatibility should be fine for general print monitoring using a Linux SBC as host.
If you want higher quality for time-lapse etc then I cannot advise.

I use a Pi Zero W with camera module running MotionOS. Makes for a nice, small, low power, self-contained streaming camera.

I went ahead and picked up a Wyze v3 for $35 bucks and made a "lens ring" mod to adjust the focal distance. The image is very nice, even in low light. Not sure if I will put in the effort to get the stream integrated into DWC, or not. For my purpose of just checking in on a print remotely, using their app is no big deal. Probably easier than the mobile DWC page.

How many camera Stream can you integrate in the DWC window ?
