    Hello everyone 🙂

We are currently trying to define if we can power two fans via 5V in addition to other components we are using on the Duet 3 Mini 5+. We are considering to get 5V from 5V_PWM to run the two fans with 5V on OUT_3 and OUT_4:

    a5be717d-9212-48d3-b8bc-e3fb0a97c284-image.png

According to this guide it seems that we have 700mA available overall for 3.3V/5V: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_Mini_5plus_Hardware_overview#Section_Operating_limits

Components we would use with 5V:

    • PanelDue i5: ?
    • SuperPinda: approx. 100mA (we have this value from a similar sensor, we will measure this to verify)
    • Fan 1: 50mA
    • Fan 2: 176mA

This would leave 374mA for the PanelDue. According to documentation a 4.3'' draws 280mA and the 7" draws 650mA but there seems to be no note of the current draw for the 5" screen: https://miscsolutions.wordpress.com/paneldue/

Can we run the PanelDue i5 with 374mA? Are we missing anything else?

    Thank you!

@flobler Not as an answer to the question and as a detail only. For the Superpinda:

However, why not connect an external 5v supply:

I use the above on my V0.1 and the Mean well 5V PSU on the V2.4 than I can also connect som Neopixels without problems.

@gixxerfast thank you! Any chance you can share this data sheet?

We would like to keep everything as easy as possible (this is for the Bear project, so we are planning this for many users). Before using an additional external power supply we likely would reconsider what fans we use/how we connect them. But thank you generally a very valid point.

          Yes, of course. Sorry.

Before using an additional external power supply

As a side note, the external 5V power supply may be a small and cheap 24v -> 5v buck converter.

I appreciate though your desire for simplicity.

                @zapta Thanks for the tip!

@dc42 any chance you have the current draw for the PanelDue i5 handy? I hope I did not miss anything in the docs. Thank you!

@flobler Here is an older blog post from @dc42 with specs for 4.3 and 7 inch displays. I'd guess the 5 inch one is closer to the 4.3 inch in terms of power consumption.

@pakue thank you! I have seen that but I'd like to know for sure instead of working/planning based of an assumption 🙂
