Phisical buttons. How?

I'm pretty sure it can be done, the problem, it's how. ..
In Duet 3 mini, you can add physical buttons, which execute macros (emergency stop, up / down zoffset, up / down printing speed ...).
How would it be done?
Up to how many buttons could be configured? And... Any guide/tutorial -
