Stepper motor break system

So I am building a printer and the Z is moved by a belt looking into breaking options ( I see that break control was added in the latest beta but I had already order hardware)
I saw DC_42 say to use 8 shotkey diodes and wondering how to wire them up to clamp the stepper in place when powered off… looking on here and google I’m a little lost on property setting this up. Any one have a quick wire diagram of how to accomplish this please.

Here's an option:
One of these will do the job and won't require a signal or switch for a brake. It costs about the same as a motor and a brake.I used one in the Z axis of my printer and it works great. The bed does not move when powered off. The 30:1 gear reduction means it can lift a very heavy bed. With the pulleys I used I get a nice, even 20 um/full step of the motor.

@mrehorstdmd thank you but I already have the motor just trying to find out how to properly wire in some shotkey diode as @dc42 has mentions in other posts

@codfish124 If your goal is to prevent the bed from moving, just adding diodes won't do the job. They will slow the drop of the bed, but it will still drop. Think about it- the motor only generates voltage/current when it is spinning. If the motor is spinning, the bed is dropping.
