Power supply PFC - Is it needed?
-
Hello, all
I am wondering if the PSU for a 3D printer would benefit with PFC functionality. The difference in cost between a PFC power supply and without seems to be about £100 for a 600+w psu but there is little information if this would actually change the behaviour of the machine or how the duet performs.
There is also some conflicting information regarding its efficacy, as some believe its not important, and others think it should be mandatory.
Does anyone know better / what are you thoughts on this?

PFC in no way affects the operation of the printer.
Your power supply will produce the rated voltage at the rated current and that's the only thing the printer sees.
You might want a PFC power supply if you run a LOT of printers on the same circuit.
PFC affects the AC-side of the power supply and that's why it does not affect the operation of the printer.
