    Confused about Duet3 boards having TMC2160 or TMC5160

      I'm sure I've missed the explanation somewhere but I did search.

      In the product pages most of the Duet 3 boards list "On-board stepper drivers 6 x TMC2160 or TMC5160" as the drivers. Are these drivers essentially identical for the purposes of the board? did they change with a revision? I'm Just curious what drivers would come with a board if I were to order one.

        I believe all 6HC/3HC currently come with 5160. I'm unable to find details on the differences between 2160 and 5160.

          @phaedrux 2160s don't have some advanced motion planning capabilities that the 5160s have. 3D printers don't use those motion planning capabilities so they act exactly the same

          Owns various duet boards and is the main wiki maintainer for the Teamgloomy LPC/STM32 port of RRF. Assume I'm running whatever the latest beta/stable build is

            @phaedrux I did find the datasheets on both, you can find the info on the links below. From what I can tell they very similar, the pinouts appear the same but the 5160 has a built in motion controller so I am not sure how much difference it makes.

              @andy-vickers that's correct. The built in motion controller in the 5160 isn't useful in 3D printer applications.
