sensorless homing on delta printer
-
Do the towers need endstops for sensorless homing on a delta printer?
-
@chris no - you home up to max on all three towers using the stall detection on the motors to stop at the top of the towers. For a delta it is highly recommended to use a Z probe for calibration. this is particularly true if you are using sensorless homing. See:

cheers tony, i have the smart effector is this ideal to use as a z probe?
-
@chris yes!

Personal opinion: Specifically on a Delta, eliminating $6 to $10 worth of switches and wire is a very poor tradeoff to the imprecision of stall-detect endstops.
-
@danal I agree if you do not probe before every print. If you are happy to run a probing routine before every print then its fine.

Good point. Probing makes the absolute endstop-bed relationship irrelevant.
