yes i saw that one - using the plastic as hinges is a cool idea if it works well.

The folded hinges that's a great idea.
I have huge respect for Adrian and what he started but it's not hard to conclude self replicating is now very niche, precision all metal construction now reigns.

Depends on the aim… Adrian keeps bringing it back to a printable printer and each generation is better than the last.

I think it's brilliant, and of course in the true spirit of RepRap. Maybe it's not for those of us fortunate to live in the Western world and with access to precision metal components and also with the money to be able to afford those components. But for those less fortunate than ourselves, it's brilliant. Maybe it will never be capable of producing items to a high degree of accuracy or which require very tight tolerances, but a very high percentage of the things we print don't need that sort of accuracy in any case. I might build one, just for the hell of it. It'll be fun to do, cheap and I would imagine give a high degree of satisfaction to see just what is possible with the absolute minimum of metal parts..
Personally I think it's a great shame that the RepRap forums have been hijacked by people who build machines which are neither "Rep" nor "Rap" and anyone proposing the use of any printed parts will be faced with derision and ridicule. IMO, RepRap printers have their place alongside high precision, machines which require access to full metal working machinery as well as high cost precision parts to produce. They just fulfil a different role for different people.

Think I may do the same Ian just for the hell of it but I also think that you could use some Braided Fishing line instead of the Stainless wire something like Dynon Braid

I agree that there should be no derision or ridicule in the direction of people building printers out of printed parts or wood, or fishing line, or Ikea furniture or hanging from the walls on wires. Its all very interesting. But Reprap has evolved into the more precise 3D printers many of us use now to some extent so I can't see any issue with reprap forum evolving with it, so long as its inclusive. Perhaps we should suggest a sub forum for as-self-replicating-as-possible, and another for high-precision-machines.
