I'm currently re-wiring a Prusa MK2 and would like to keep the 5V (0.05A) Noctua fan that is cooling the hotend. I wondered if there is any way I could hook in the 5V fan, since all regular fan-outputs are 12V on the Mini. Might the 5V PWM output for laser/servo be an option?

I think the fan headers out5 and out6 are effectively open-collector to ground on one pin and +24v/+12v on the other. I think you could wire your fan between +5v and out5-/out6-.

The Duet switches PWM on the negative side, so you can provide the 5v source from pretty much anywhere and still use the fan header negative pin to control it.

This is often done for 24v systems to use 12v fans.

im glad it worked for you but I am still unsure how to do it. I have the same exact noctua fan 5V and have everything else wired correct. but idk where to get the actual 5V. also would I still use the tacho pin? the noctua has 3 pins too.

The solution is the same as for 12v fans posted above, but instead of setting the buck converter to 12v, set it to 5v.

@phaedrux so is there no 5V on the duet board? I dont wanna have to buy a buck converter.

@adalton5683 There are 5v sources on the mini5+ you can use, just take care not to overload the 5v regulator. A simple fan should be no problem.
