I've purchased the Duet3 distribution board and 1lc to go with my 6HC for the RatRig vcore3.
      I just saw the following:

Duet 3 with CAN expansion firmware configuration limitations

Duet 3 with CAN expansion firmware configuration limitations
RepRapFirmware (as at version 3.2.2) for Duet 3 with CAN-connected tool or expansion boards currently has the fo...

Due to CAN latency the motors connected to expansion boards may slightly overshoot the position at which the endstop or Z probe was triggered. This would not usually matter for an endstop switch, but it does mean that repeated probing with a Z probe (e.g. for mesh bed compensation) is not advisable. This will be fixed in a future release

How will I use these boards, if I can't use them for mesh bed levelling?
Please advice. Maybe I'm missing something or am misinterpreting the statement.

@jub what this means is that the Z motors should be driven from the 6HC and not from an expansion board. That's all.

As long as the toolboard is running an extruder and not the Z motor, it should have no effect?

I have a CoreXY setup using a 6HC and toolboards; on mine, I've fitted the Z probe on the head carriage itself rather than any specific tool, and wired directly back to the main board.

If you want to be 100% certain of zero latency, just wire the probe direct rather than via the toolboard.

Correct. I have clarified the text at https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_firmware_configuration_limitations. My own E3D tool changer has two extruders driven from tool boards.

yes this is how the e3d toolchanger does it right now.
