possible to connect remote accelerometer to 1LC?
-
I am planning to fit a 1LC toolboard to the flying extruder on my delta but in doing so the accelerometer data wont be of any use.
I plan on fitting one of PCR's accelerometers to the print head. is there any way I could wire it through the 1LC or will I have to take the accelerometer wiring back to my Duet 3 mini?
looking at the 1LC I don't think the SPI pins for the temp daughterboard are available but I wondered if they are accessible but labelled differently?

@opentoideas I believe it would have to go back to the main board.
There's no way to install an accelerometer to the older 1LC board.
The other option is run a Sammy C21 board over CAN-FD and connect the accelerometer to that -
@jay_s_uk hmm thats what I was worried about. Just because the newer board has the accelerometer built in does not mean the needed pins are available.
Looking at the board the SWD connector is the only possibility but I cant find reference to the pins.
The other option is that the connections needed may be on the PCB (since it contains an accelerometer) but not taken to a header but Idont know if I could identify them and even if I could whether it would cause more problems.
A seperate CAN board may be the simplest solution

The I2C pins for the accelerometer are simply unused at the CPU, on the V1.0 boards.
Hypothetically it should be possible to add connections to those, plus 5V <> 3.3V level translators and wire an accelerometer in; however it's not simple, needs some additional electronics building and you risk damaging the board.
With the V1.1 or later boards, the level translator and accelerometer are built in and the device address cannot be changed (the pin needed is not connected and hidden under the IC).
It would be possible to tap in to the 3.3V I2C bus at the pullup resistors & use a second accelerometer set to the alternate address, but without firmware changes nothing would be seen by the system.
I'd stick with the separate CAN board if you need long cables, or temporarily just use an accelerometer on a flying lead from the main board, to take readings.

@rjenkinsgb thank you thats as I feared.
so my options are to use a remote accelerometer with a Sammy C21 CAN interface or come up with a way to mount the 1LC on the print head.
how critical is toolboard orientation? reading the M955 instructions I am struggling to apply it to a delta

@opentoideas said in possible to connect remote accelerometer to 1LC?:

Good question! On a delta it's less critical to align X and Y with axes of the accelerometer. However, I suggest you align Z with one of the three axes of the accelerometer.

@dc42 thanks, thats what I was guessing but I am a complete newb with Delta kinematics so couldnt get my head wrapped round it.
it might "just" be possible to mount the toolboard below the smart effector so I am adapting my part cooling shroud but it is really tight and may have to wait until my magball arms as my current adapter costs me even more space
