Solved WIFI without Password
-
Good morning,
Is there any way to add a wifi network without password, the M587 command does not allow me to add wifis that do not have the parameter P or the parameter P"" is empty.
Is there any way to do it? (it is the network of an educational centre and they are not allowed to change it).
If not, could it be implemented in 3.4?
Best regards

An open network means any other user on that network can also access the printer or any other equipment using that network.
I'd suggest you get a WiFi repeater (extender) that has a firewall included and can have separate passwords for the client and AP sides.
Then use that to connect to the open network and connect the printer to the firewalled (and password protected) side.
That means only authorised people will be able to access the network the printer is on.
If you don't need internet access from that connection, you could use any old WiFi internet router and just leave the internet side disconnected.
An old router with ethernet WAN plus a WiFi client box (a gaming adapter, that converts wifi to ethernet) would do the same as the WiFi repeater and may be easier to configure, as the two sides are independent.

Good morning @rjenkinsgb,
It is an option that I will raise with the study centre. Thanks for the idea
But the idea they have, is that any student can access the printer, anyway they must know the IP and they can add a password to the DWC.
Although it is a very good idea and I will consider it, I would like to be able to connect to a wifi network without a password.
Best regards

@aitor you could also set the printer up in Access Point mode? I've not tried it on mine but basically it means you can connect direct to the printer, rather than via the network.

@aitor if it's an open network then I think it doesn't matter what password you provide in M587 as long as it meets the minimum length requirement.

Good morning @engikeneer,
Yes, that's how they are working so far, thanks for your input.
Good morning @dc42,
Perfect, it worked correctly, I wouldn't have thought that it could work like that.
I would recommend adding a note in the documentation, I've been thinking for 2 years that it wasn't possible, until I thought to ask.
Thank you very much to all of you
Best regards
