is it possible to connect and config a duet3 mainboard with a duex5 expansion board with different drivers and a 7' display, previously used with a duet2 wifi? I don't want to buy a whole new system.

Possible? Most anything is possible.
Practical? I would say not given the 50 some connections that need to be made.
