10k PTC thermistor on DUET3 Mini5
-
Is it possible to use a "10k PTC thermistor" with the DUET3 Mini5 or the 1LC toolboard? I have an inline water sensor in a pump/reservoir combo from Corsair and I believe this is the type of sensor they use. I would like to monitor the cooling fluid temp to manage the cooling fans on the radiator more accurately if possible.
Many thanks!

@JabawokJayUK I would imagine so, but you'd need the appropriate B and C values because a PTC has an opposing curve to the more usual NTC.
The last time I looked (which was quite some time ago) I got the impression that PTCs would OK for a temperature range of between about 60 and 120 deg C. I never see more than about 35 deg C coolant temperature on my liquid cooled hot ends so unless things have changed, a PTC wouldn't be appropriate for my particular setup.

@deckingman Thanks, I have got it sensing now, but its a way off the target temp 79c instead of 19c, so I need to find the values and adjust. These sensors are good for lower temps and are shipped with the pump/reservoir combo so have the correct temp range for the job. I use the same pump/res in a PC and it reads correctly.
Thanks for the advice, i'll get back to my config

@JabawokJayUK So the main thing is that the resistance will increase with temperature when using a PTC but it will decrease with temperature when using an NTC. The Steinhart formula should fit either curve if it's given the right values.
