Accelerometer for a Duet2
-
I am curious - I have a Creality CR10-S5 (large) printer running with a Duet2. Filastruder has an aftermarket kit for an accelerometer that connects to the SPI daughterboard port on the Duet.
How effective is this sort of setup vs using the accelerometer on a toolboard (with a Duet3)?
I understand that most of the issues in a 3D printer are related to frame oscillations (especially on a large bed-slinger setup) - would attaching the accelerometer to the frame give me enough of a reasonable quality signal to noticeably reduce my ringing? I would rather not run a 10 conductor ribbon cable to the printhead on a 500*500 printer.
Even attaching it to the cross rail on one side would be preferable to attaching it to the carriage. -
@jens55 you only need to run it once to capture data, so an inconvenient wiring setup may be acceptable just so.
The further away you are from the nozzle tip when measuring, the more the measured values will deviate from the ideal frequency you want to capture. Since Input Shaping will cover a frequency range, this may or may not be an issue.

@oliof .... oh, did not know that .... no problem in that case!
Thanks! -
@jens55 I should have said once per axis (could be in one go on a corexz/cross gantry setup where the head moves in both X and Y), but my point still stands.
