Motherboard swap
-
Dear community,
For research purposes, I’m looking to replace the Klipper motherboard of my Artillery Sidewinder X4 plus in order to add more stepper motors to the printer. Would you be able to recommend a Duet motherboard that would fit this specific need? What would be the steps I need to go through?
Thank you for your help,
Timothée Leblond

Most likely the Duet 3 mini 5+ will be a good pick. Add the dual stepper expansion if you need more than 5 motors, and/or consider CAN-FD expansion boards for the print head.
The steps to commission any printer are outlined on docs.duet3d.com. There is a conversion how to for the Ender 3 at https://docs.duet3d.com/How_to_guides/Getting_started#printer-specific-guides which most likely will give you a good idea of how to convert your printer even though its a different model.

Are you intending to continue using Klipper, or are you switching over to RRF?

@oliof Thank you so much for your answer!

@Phaedrux What would you recommend? I'm not against changing if it's simpler. If so, what would it change to my process?

I am not familiar with Klipper or which Duet boards it supports. If you ask around here, you'll likely be encouraged to just use RepRapFirmware, but what's easiest for you may be what you're already familiar with.
