Any progress updates on this as it seems to have gone quiet? I'm really interested in the mentioned potential for this to provide an automatic linear/non-linear extrustion correction.

I'm also interested, I am pretty fast at making the measurements and I like the results and the graphs but it takes a while to make them manually, I would love to have them automated or at least not manual.

Yes there has been progress. We have prototypes of a new mechanical mechanism and slightly modified electronics to go with it.

Thanks for the update, that's great to hear. I'm sure after a careful initial calibration this will make a massive difference to the consistency of the machines.

I would assume the Magnetic Sensor will be better in being able to pick up more plastic types, but is there a pros/cons spreadsheet comparing both the laser and magnetic sensors? Would there be any cases where you would want both sensors because of those pros/cons? (not sure if you could use both at the same time)

Fun, that 3 letter word with "u" in the middle.

Magnetic sensor: Considerably more reliable/accurate/robust. Also more expensive.

We are still testing the new prototypes.

Interesting that Prusa has abandoned this whole idea and gone another way. I think they went back to a mechanical switch.

Has there been any progress on the sensors? I have seen a few posts regarding the sensors and I believe a beta testers post. Just wondering if there is any news at all on them.

Yes, we expect to offer them for sale in the near future.

@dc42 Can you please shed some light on how near this "near future" is? 🙂
I am eagerly awaiting the public availability of the magnetic sensor, and I'd be glad to support you in testing the current prototype version.

@themelle, our supplier had some issues with manufacturing the plastic housings. Tony may be able to provide a more recent update.

Is this the Magnetic Filament Sensor everyone has been waiting for?

I assume it is but haven't seen (just missed it maybe?) any confirmation.

                                        Thanks!

It is but I am not sure whether they were going to do some more work to it before they released it which is why I have not ordered one yet

I have seen it on Filastruder for a few weeks now and have also held off. I would really like to know if I am waiting for no good reason... Also, I found it odd it comes pre built. And want to know why they did that. It's just does not seem like them to sell something (to makers) that is already made. I would have expected them to release the STL and I would have printed my own. But instead they used SLS (or similar?) and not FDM to print it themselves.
                                            Just curious...
