  • PWM Fan Noise

Just started the final details of my build….

Hooked up axial flow fan to the FAN1 set for PWM control. Fan works fine but horrible noise when not at 100%.

If I change the PWM value to something like 500 (seems to be the default for the online configurator) do I go higher or lower to possibly get the fan to quite down?

    Thanks

  • RE: PWM Fan Noise

I tried going from 500 down to 250, didn't seem to make a difference in the noise. I guess since the micro controller directly handles each PWM output, I was going to try upwards but didn't want to go too high (wondering what the upper limit might be).

  • Simple Stepper Driver Test?

Been working on a 3D printer for quite a while but have put it down several times....

Now finally trying to finish but when I command the printer to move it sometimes moves very smoothly and sometimes makes a horrible noise. This is a CoreXY kinematic movement and

I'm making movements via the Duet3D web interface.

Even thought I thought I had bad cables and replaced them, I'm not so sure that in all the times trying to get the thing to move correctly that I might have not powered down the printer prior to unplugging stepper motor cables.

Is there a way to test the steppers so I can see if they might need to be replaced? For information, this is a Duet2.

    Thanks

    Thanks! F100 worked fine.

I guess I didn't want to burn anything up search for an acceptable range.

  • RE: Fan Not Configured/Mounted Correctly?

@MadeBye, mine is the same way. Turned the fan around, unlike the pictures on the website and tried it.

It appears that there is significant back pressure , even though the hot end is brand new, to make it feel like the flow is going the wrong way. However when I turned the fan around with the sticker facing outward, it was much worse.

  • Fan Not Configured/Mounted Correctly?

Okay, I am taking it real slow setting up my Duet Ethernet.

    1. Connected hot end and ran an Auto Calibration (M303 H1 S240). Have E3D cooling fan connected to FAN0 with RED wire on V_FAN.
    2. Send M303 H1 S240 to Duet and as expected, fan turn on immediately, heater comes on and it does its calibration.
    3. However, it seems like the fan may be turning in the WRONG direction as it is NOT blowing air across the heatsink as it is on by Prusa MK2S.
    4. Tried reversing the connection….won't run.
    5. Tried modifying config.g from:
    a. M106 P0 S1 I0 F500 H1 T45 to
    b. M106 P0 S1 I1 F500 H1 T45.....fan won't run.

I know that the first thing that might be obvious here is "you have the fan on backwards" and that just might be the case. However it is installed EXACTLY how E3D shows it on their website...

Since this is my first build of both E3D hot end and setup of Duet Ethernet, I am hoping someone can shed some insight.

    Thank You

  • RE: Check out my motor specifications please

Thanks for the advise….I am connecting them to the Z motor connections ZA and ZB, I assume that is in series?

Only one extruder planed so if putting both motors through one driver is a problem I can resort to using E1. If I use this option, how do I make sure they work in tandem.

Thanks for a wonderful board (DuetEthernet) and the support....thats the main reason I went with this board.

  • Check out my motor specifications please

    Well,
I ordered before I looked closely at the specifications on my dual Z leadscrew motors (I concentrated on the current)

"Avoid motors with rated voltage (or product of rated current and phase resistance) > 4V or inductance > 4mH."

    Mine have the following characteristics.
    Model 17HS6401
    Step Angle 1.8
    Rated Voltage 5.1vdc
    Rated Current 1.7A
    Phase Resistance 3ohms
    Phase Inductance 6.2mH
    Holding Torque 7.2 Kg/cm

    I'll be running a 24vdc power supply.

They seem to run fine on the bench under no load….should I sell/scrap them and buy new ones?

    Thanks

  • Wired or Wireless?

With all of the recent complains on AJAX disconnects and such, I'm wondering if I should just purchase the Wired version over the wireless version. However if the problems are caused by Ethernet stealing too many CPU cycles I don't know if this would make any difference???

Any of you using Wired Ethernet seeing the disconnect problems?

    Thanks
