    • RE: Hangprinter help on duet 3

      Hi,

finally our printing is working and documentation for a lot of stuff can be found here > https://wiki.fablabchemnitz.de/display/TH

We did not use Duet 3 firmware but there you can find different topics about things like motor wiring, math, coordinate system, PID tuning, etc.

    • RE: Smart Stepper?

it's an old topic but for all who found this: https://github.com/Misfittech/nano_stepper/issues/40

i documented some stuff for wiring up the smart steppers with a Duet 2. Until yet i had no problems with missed steps yet. I did not configure the T parameter.

by the way what are the default values for step pulse width, step pulse interval, direction setup time and direction hold time ?

    • Question abou wiring up laser pointers for projection

      Hey dear Duetdudes,

i have a question about the wiring of laser modules i bought for my project i am building up. I have a Duet 2 up and running fine and now in my machine i like to install three low consumption laser diodes with red point. I dont want to do things like engraving or cutting and i dont want to use them as end stops. They have another use case.

The diodes run at 2.7 to 3.3 volts and draw each 30mA. They generate 1mW of power to project a point of ~3-5mm at 2 to 3 meters distance. I want to use those diodes to generate some measurement/helper markings in the machine frame. I selected those diodes because they have 635 nm of emitting light which is good for visibilty. in my use case i also had to select for class 2 laser light and for less output to be secure to eyes. and i needed some focusable light. full specs: https://www.laserfuchs.de/Laserfuchs-LFD635-1-3-12x30.5-C400/70131031

Because i dont want to keep them active all the time i am thinking how to wire them best - now as i have got them and tested them with some batteries. Do you have any recommendations on how to wire up best with Duet? I thought about PWM controlling to turn them on/off. I have no expansion boards, just the Duet.

      my ideas so far:

      • make use of 3.3 Volts of the end stop connectors -> do the end stop outouts survive 30 mA or in total 90 mA?
      • 24 volts of VIN + some step down module to convert 24v down to 3.3V and then to connect directly to a FAN connector. the 90mA should be totally no problem here because usual fans have 0.1 A or more
      • some GPIO pin + some transistor logic to turn on/off the diodes. I read about 4 free to use pins on Duet which can be used freely (which i did not find on the Duet drawing yet)
      • wire up to my Raspberry Pi 3 instead (GPIO will not survice 90 mA because total maximum allowed s 50mA). any idea here maybe?

all diodes should be on/off together. i dont need to switch them on/off individually.

i want to install with less electronics as possible. i am happy to get your feedback, critics, ideas, whatever 😄

      thanks, Mario 🙂

    • Heater idling - automatic shutdown

      Hi,

i checked the docs and forums but did not find any proper G/M code for setting some idle timeout for heaters. I want to say the firwmare that it automatically shuts down heaters which are left active but lets say did not extrude past 15 minutes or in the past 15 minutes no XY coordinate was triggered so printer does not print. Would appreciate some hint to configure or maybe some script or so.

      regards, Mario 🙂

    • RE: M118 communication to RPi

hi. post is old but figured out the same lags with M118 command like you. If i enter a lot of M118 in a row it takes a long time to return some message on console. I tested with P0 argument

another thing i recognized is that colon : do not work. They get ignored (not printed)

    • RE: Hangprinter help on duet 3

Hey, i am working hard to get my Hangprinter working too and doing it with Duet 2 firmware. Neithertheless i figured out that the offical documentations lacks information about the M669 command and it's configuration parameters to use

      https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Gcode#Section_M669_Set_kinematics_type_and_kinematics_parameters

      There is a huge line in config.g (can also be forced to generate by M500 command which write config_override.g). This looks like M669 K6 A0.000:-2000.000:-100.000 B2000.000:1000.000:-100.000 C-2000.000:1000.000:-100.000 D3000.000 P2000.0 Q0.007000 R55.000:55.000:55.000:55.000

ABCD are the anchor point locations

But what are P, Q and R values?

      cheers, Mario

    • RE: Duet 2 Ethernet questions

Hi. I bought a Duet 2 Ethernet and a Shanqiu FX5-24 USV for a project(https://fablabchemnitz.de/y/shanqiu-fx5-24). I thought about powering Duet by using the POE feature of that USV. It has a switch to put out 15V or 24V over POE. But i did not test because i am afraid to damage the Duet. I was not able to find any details in the specs about what would happen. I nearly fried a non-POE device at the USV already. Has anyone tested Duet with POE successfully? I know there is also POE with 48 Volts outside.

the only good sounding message was "On the Power Over Ethernet note, I can confirm that the Duet works fine hooked up to a POE switch." from RCarlyle, but he did mention the device he uses/used.

      regards, Mario

    • RE: Hangprinter help on duet 3

Hi. I am working on to build a recent HangPrinter with Duet 2 Ethernet v1.04 and MisfitTech Smart Stepper (Mechaduino Fork). I am checking a lot of software stuff due to major and minor compability and accuracy problems. I think with Duet 3 Firmware there seem to exist different difficulties

      What i found so far:

      • Torbjörn did his own Fork of RepRapFirmware (RRF) due to missing features: https://gitlab.com/tobben/hangprinter/-/tree/version_4_dev/firmware/RepRapFirmware and https://github.com/dc42/RepRapFirmware/pull/186 for detailed description of what he did
      • the official docs say that Duet 3 Firmware does not fully support HangPrinter yet. So use Version 2.x (see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/ConfiguringRepRapFirmwareHangprinter - there is written "Hangprinters are supported in RepRapFirmware 1.20 beta 11 and later. RRF3 currently lacks support.")

if you want to use Smart Stepper there is also official firmware and some custom fork of Torbjörn. He implemented torque control mode.

when i proceed i will try to share my config json. Because at the moment the basics are missing or are stored in hard-to-find places 😞
