So - I recently grabbed an inductive sensor (LJ12A3-4-Z/BX), NPN, rated between 6-36v. I wanted to make sure that when I hooked it up to my duet, it wouldn't cook the board from the 24v output from my power supply. After a short bit of prodding, my readings came to a halt with a pretty unenthusiastic pop and me taking 5 seconds to realize the LED on the inductive sensor had gone kaput.

Here's what I did:
Entirely unhooked the duet from the power supply.
Clipped the 24+ to the V+ on the sensor from the power supply.
Clipped the v- to the - on the power supply.
Clipped my multimeter common lead to the v- and other lead the V+ and got 24v. (That's good?)
Sat the inductive sensor next to some alan wrenches I had kicking around to get the sensor to stay on, then tried to probe the signal output to make sure it would be a reasonable range after attaching a diode, which is about when it died.

Is there a better way to test this? I realize blowing up components is part of the fun of learning electronics, but I'd rather keep my duet safe from my own learning experiences.

Heya - running in to some issues here with duet wifi. Here's the steps I went through:

1. Noticed the wifi was no longer responding. I went over to pronterface.
2. Proterface didn't recognize the port. It failed to find the device. Also in the device manager, it says it failed to recognize the device.
3. I reset the firmware with the button on the board.
4. Downloaded, installed, and ran sam-ba 2.17 - it looks like it recognizes the device since the board at91cap9-dk_mem18 shows up, and it finds the connection on \USBserial\COM3.
5. After clicking connect, it never responds.
6. After giving it a few solid minutes to connect, unplugging the usb device gives me an error saying it can't connect. (So this is why I'm guessing it's hanging.)

Anything else I should check before pinging filastruder (the US distributor) for a replacement? (I really love this board. I think I'm just having bad luck.)

Edit: Tried a second USB cable to rule that out and a second computer. No dice. Also tried Sam-ba 3.2 as well.
Edit 2: Also - anything info I should grab off the board (like a serial?) After reading another similar thread it's looking like I'll have to return it. So I'm going to start preparing for that.

Hm. Pretty stumped.

I guess the windings are good on the motor (hooked them up to some LEDs and those are flashing when I manually turn it. ) Any tips on troubleshooting? Tomorrow I'll get the pinout on the steppers and hook it up manually with jumpers to rule out faulty wiring.

Hm. Seems like there's something weird going on with the extrude on the web interface controls. When sending extrusion manually it seems fine (and crazy fast.) I'll do some more tinkering. It might just be a configuration issue.

Heya - so everything's going great except for the extruder. I took the side of the casing off to see what was up, it looks like it's just moving in a back and forth motion. I've tried re-crimping (this time properly) the cables and testing them for continuity with a meter. So - I've got a few questions:

• Is there a way to test using the second extruder driver to rule that out?

• Is there a way to disable the low-temp warning on using the extruder for easier troubleshooting? (Obviously - I'd remove the filament first before testing this.)

• Anything obviously dumb I'm doing?

Let me know if uploading a video would help! It literally just ticks back and forth.

Thanks guys! I was mostly wondering about grounding and static but it sounds fine by popular opinion. @pcsentinel I'll give your case a shot once I get my printer going again.

I'm reasonably new to working with electronics in general. Is it a bad idea to print a plastic project box for the duet3d, or should I go for a metal case?

Just got the duet wifi going tonight! First of all, I've got three things to say:

• I have no idea what I am doing.

• I will never try to crimp cables with pliers again.

• This thing is AWESOME.

Over to my question though - I was an airhead and connected to the wrong access point on setup. Any way to reset this?

When I try m588, m589, and m587, I get 'unsupported command.'

Any ideas?

Got it going! (Mostly!) It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

I'll do a write up on some pain points later - but aside from some mistakes I made on my end it pretty much worked out of the box.

Thanks guys! I've already been perusing the duet wiki, haven't started to dig in to the gcode yet. And darokee I bumped in to your post on github a while back - it originally just made me think it was possible for someone pretty new to this.

I've started documenting the whole progress with photos and a writeup so if someone decides to do the same thing later, they'll know what's involved and get a better feel for it.

Sounds good! I agree this board is definitely better - but is it newbie friendly enough to be something I could get up and running in a few weeks?

Heya! I'm pretty new to 3d printing - the Micro SD port on the reprap board just tanked, and I'm not versed enough to repair surface mount parts, so I'm considering upgrading to the Duet Wifi.

I'm totally fine with learning - but is installing this within the grasp of a reasonably patient newbie, or should I just go for a replacement reprap board?
