Unlike Noctua, you can get 24V fans in 30mm size

I couldn't find on digikey a 30x30mm 24V Sunos. Can you please point me to one?

You might have to broaden your search beyond sunon for 24v.

Thanks everybody for the great info. Looks like Sunos is a winner. I placed an order to the 12V one in @phaedrux's link. Will also add a 12V stepdown to run it.

Once I will install it I plan to measure the heatsink's temperature and compare to the current one. I presume that this is all that matter functionality wise.

Got it from Digikey and did a quick test to compare the cooling affect to my current fan and it looks very good.

Here are some numbers, ambient 20C, Extruder with Silicon sock 250C, heatsink (fins) temp with fan removed 54C, heatsink temp with old fan 34C, heatsink temp with Sunon (nominal 12V, running on 10.5V) 32C. It's also quieter and its motor gets less warm (29C compare to the 38C of my old fan).

I will install and permanently and will see how it will perform over time. I believe that the sudden movements of the printing head are hard on fans in general but hopefully the magnetic bearing of the Sunons will make a difference.

              Thanks for the recommendation.

@zapta it's a great little fan. I've used a few and recommend it a lot. Sunon makes many industrial grade fans for OEM use. So there are many specs to choose from with actual MTBF data and ambient heat ratings. They aren't as cheap as the random chinesium fans, but at least you know what you're getting and they will last a very long time.

The maglev bearings are quiet and you're probably right that they help with longevity in a vibration and shock heavy application, but they also have a tendency to rattle a bit at times. Especially the radial blowers anyway, since they may be mounted at an off angle.

@phaedrux, I also placed an order today for https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/sunon-fans/MF50151VX-B00U-A99/259-1829-ND/7691033 , standardizing on Sunos and 12VDC. Now I also understand why 24V people go through the hassle of adding a 12V fans DC/DCs, for the better availability of good quality fans.

Hopefully with the Duet3 data linked head, we will be able to add fans with RPM sensors such that the Duet can detect fan issues without requiring additional wires.

Install today the Sunos turbo fan, now the printer is all Sunos 12V and sounds good. Will see about reliability.

The Sunos turbo has a strange pattern of fins with interleaving irregular mini posts as can see in the picture. Must be their secret sauce.

@zapta possibly balancing mass to counteract other of centre features on the fan. Doubt they are balanced individually as that would be expensive.

Was looking at the V4 through V6 hotend assemblies recently and the fan shroud hasn't really changed much other than design for manufacture changes - ie swapping from printed to molded.

Running 3 P3Steel with Duet 2. Duet 3 on the shelf looking for a suitable machine. One first generation Duet in a Logo/Turtle style robot!

The pins are thin and tall and there are many of them on both sides of the wheel in large groups with a certain pattern. My guess is that they were designed to actually interact with the air flow in some way. For balancing they could design the same additional mass but with less interference with the air flow.

I tried to look at their patents but didn't find anything relevant. Would be interesting to cut all of them off and see what happens. 😉

259-1829-ND. It's the size common on many 3d printers.

The Sunos MC30101V1-000U-A99 fan is still holding strong. Clearly better quality than everything I tried before. Thanks everybody for the recommendation.
