Short to ground alarm on the duet board

@dc42 also a heads up, i tried swapping the ports in the config.g as i had seen someone do on the duet3d forum but still the alarm persists, strangely i can home the machine, pick and drop tools, fans work too, and i can heat the tools and the bed, hopefully you have some solution to this

@bearer where can i M569 this, in the config.g , just asking cause i am new to the duet, but have expeirence with other printer boards, also i tried to swap the ports from 3/4/5/6 to 7/4/5/6 that didnt get the alarm silent as well

Yes, in config.g you will already have a line
M569 P3
and something else, addR-1
to that line to make the error go away (the driver will still be defective, but disabled)The motor on driver 3 worked fine on another driver after you swapped?

@bearer i didnt try that as yet but, i can try that and see , firstly i think want the alarm gone, cause those keep coming

make sure to check the wiring first so you don't risk damaging another driver if there was a problem with the wiring.
the errors will go away with adding R-1 to disable driver 3.

@bearer strangely the wiring came from E3D so i am perplexed how they would have messed it up

they probably didn't but doesn't hurt to double check.

@bearer i think i should have but generally i never had issues with their stuff, so was relaxed on the checking part, but i guess need to check even if its from the most dependable companies

There are many reports here about people getting a 'short to ground' errors. Are these really shorts to ground or something else? If the latter, consider to change the error message?

Good news is that after adding the R-1 the alarm went away, now i must inspect all the wires to be very sure before plugging them in :), but hope i get a replacement

@zapta my guess is sometimes you can get faulty boards or drivers, electronics are after all not a 100% all the time, or it could be a wiring thing from the @E3D ppl, anyways i will have to investigate this, and hopefully i get a replacement

@rajilpahuja, something is probably wrong ;-), but considering that the steppers connectors don't even include a ground line, I wouldn't be surprised if most fo the 'short to ground' alarms we see on these forums mean something else.

i think most of them are sort of accurate, its just the short to ground is internal to the failed driver; at least after the fact.

Unfortunately we do see a few infant mortality failures of the stepper driver chips, so it's probably a chip failure. But please check the wiring in case a couple of pins have been swapped over. There should be low resistance between pins 1 and 2 of the motor connector, low resistance between pins 3 and 4, but high resistance between 1 or 2 and 3 or 4.
Either way, assuming you bought both the Duet and the wiring loom from E3D, you are entitled to have your Duet replaced or repaired under warranty.
