v0.6 toolboard -- 24V fan?

    What would be the sanest way to get a 24V fan running on a tool board? I could probably splice off VIN from the power terminal, and just use GND of the io I configured for the fan for PWM. Aside from the risk of shorting out things, anything else that would be terrible about this?

      i think there is a caveat running fans at a higher voltage than the Vfan for the mosfet; couldn't find it but i suspect another diode is involved in the solution.

        ok, then I will ... install a fan whose cables I didn't shorten before referencing the wiring diagram and noticing IO0 is only 5V. Not enough for this 24V fan. I'd have taken 12.

            I think things behave differently on the tool board. Won't take a risk, undervolting the fan is just "less air" and can be addressed later.

              Unfortunately that would feed voltage from VIN via the fan to the +12v rail, because of the flyback diode. We designed the tool board to use 12V fans.

                you could get away with using Out0 it doesn't have the diode?

                  I'm not risking the toolboard on a wrong fan. This 24V doesn't like 12V at all, so I will need to find a 12V one. The irony.
