        @Phaedrux
        yeah i've read those but it doesn't really answer my question entirely. just says use 24 volt.
        what if the motor i go with is a lower voltage motor? Do the drivers just automatically supply the right voltage and amp?

          You set the amperage with the M906 command and the driver ensures the motors get the right current you've set. The voltage rating isn't relevant. These are constant current drivers.

          Stepper motors and drivers are a pretty deep topic. If you want to learn more you'll have to do some more research, but for our purposes you just need to choose motors that are within the current limit of the duet and choose a PSU good 24v PSU.

            @Phaedrux ok so i'm thinking too much about it. get a 24 volt supply big enough that it can power everything it needs to. make sure fans and heaters are 24 volts etc. Set the amp with M906 and it'll supply the right amp and voltage.

              Yes.

              For fans you can use a buck converter to supply 12v if you wish as there are a wider selection of 12v fans available.

              But for heaters, yes, they should be natively 24v.

                I believe the OP mentioned using Duet 3. In which case, it already has a 12v regulator which can be used by setting the appropriate jumpers (no need for the buck converter). The documentation you linked to ought perhaps be updated to include this for gen 3 hardware?

                  @deckingman I do have some step down converters already so either way im good there.
                  but you are right i think. and yes- better fans with 12 volt available.

                    As long as you don't do what I once did and connect 12V fans but forget to move the jumper across, thus putting 24V across them 🙂
