          Also, to clarify my intent.

I’d like to get a complete kit from you that will allow me to build a multi use control panel that will allow me to move my motors between a number of machines. Mill, lathe, router, 3D printer, scanner ect.

I’d like to be able to setup machine profiles in the software to drive the different systems.

I’ve probably gone overkill on the (350w x4), drivers and motors and installed them into a mobile cabinet.

I’ll be installing breakers, surge protection and line filters into the panel.

Your system seems to be very intuitive and from what I’ve seen if it could be done then you’d be the people doing it.

I’m happy to incorporate anything you think appropriate to ensure a good outcome.

          Thanks and regards

          Dave

That’s ok, I’m not in a rush. In the meantime I want to keep building so I’d like engage with you on the rest of the system so I get it right.

Can that be done offline? It would just be easier is all.

Those stepper drivers need step and direction signals with a minimum signal level of 5V. As we don't yet have a Duet 3 board that supports external drivers, the best solution we can currently offer is Duet 2 WiFi or Duet 2 Ethernet, plus the Expansion Breakout Board.

We're planning a Duet 3 main board to support external drivers, but it probably won't be available this year.

Is the duet 3 capable of driving the motors directly?

@bigdave not the ones you've linked to

I still have to install Ballscrews an mount my motors so I might try to wait it out

Duet3 6HC is rated for 4.45A RMS (6A peak) and the motors are 6A, so you'd not make full use of the motors, but unless the low resistance pr coils is a problem it ought be possible to drive them at 4.45A.

Except they have closed loop feedback which couldn't be used, which IMO would be a bit of a waste

@dc42 Looking forward to doing something similar, is there any update on the Duet 3 with external drivers might be available? Or should I buy a Duet 3 mini with 3 1XD's?

I'm sorry, we don't yet have an update on when Duet 3 with external driver support on the main board will be available. We are aware that a number of users are waiting for this.

The Duet 3 Mini can in theory support two external drivers using a breakout expansion board (as well as further external drivers using the 1XD expansion board).

                                How is your project coming?

I'm surprised you are using ball screws and a control without backlash compensation. Do you just need fast, without concern for precision? Is there something else drawing you to duet?

If duet had backlash comp, I'd put it on one (or more) of my desktop machines, but without it, I'm sticking with the existing LinuxCNC. I suppose one could use a Marlin or Beagle board, but I haven't used either yet, so I don't have a favorite or a reason to migrate. (Like standardization.)
